Requirements For SNHS
● 25 hours ● Must be a part of a committee
throughout the year. ● Attend 1 beach cleanup. ● Attend at least 2 lectures.● Recycle once a quarter ● ½- 1 hour is given for each
meeting you attend.

● 15 hours ● 5 hours must be earned from
club activities (being a part of a committee)

Lectures
● Done by Science National Honor Society members or guest speakers.
● If you know anyone who works in any of the scientific fields then let us know if they would be interested to come and give a lecture!
● You can earn hours by attending or actually doing a lecture.● If interested in presenting your own lecture, you must submit
your powerpoint to one of the officers a week in advance of the meeting.
● Once dates for lectures are announced, email Danicha or Nika stating which date you would like to lecture on.
Beach Cleanups
● Second Saturday of every month from 7 am to 11 am. ● Location: Charnow Park● Address: 300 Connecticut Street, Hollywood, FL 33020● You must complete a registration form and bring it with
you to the cleanup. ● The form is located on this website (already uploaded to
SNHS website): https://www.hollywoodfl.org/746/Keep-Hollywood-Beautiful
● After the cleanup, the organizers will provide you with a slip of paper proving you attend the cleanup. Please submit this paper to HD in order to receive hours.
Recycling● Tuesdays and Wednesdays
after school ○ Tuesdays: buildings M, C,
and U○ Wednesdays: buildings S
and D ● Schedule will be given at least
a week in advance ○ Let me know of your
absence at least 2 days in advance
● Spread the word!
SECMESECME-Science, Engineering, Communication, Mathematics, and Enrichment
● Competition that includes events like… ○ Water Rockets ○ Mouse Trap Cars ○ Balsa Wood Bridges ○ Robotics ○ Banner Making
● Competition is on a Saturday, early in the morning to mid afternoon. ● Each team will be assigned an officer to oversee their project (create deadlines, etc.) ● Each team will be required to attend a homeroom meeting every two weeks in order to
update Mrs. HD and the other officers of their progress.● If a team does not submit work by the specific deadlines, they will be penalized.● This competition must be taken seriously. If you know you won’t have time to put
effort into a project, don’t sign up!!● First Meeting: TBA
Science Scavenger Hunt
● Students go around the campus and answer science questions based on the type of science that they are in. ○ It will be for all AP/AICE/Honors Science Course that is
offered on campus. ● Teachers usually give extra credit, but we will check with them
as time gets closer. ● You can help by making questions for different science
subjects, setting up, participating, or being a proctor. ● This committee doesn’t begin until February.
Science Day● We meet up with Elementary/ Middle Schoolers and complete
science experiments and activities with them.● First Science Day will be October 4th with the West Campus
5th graders. ● Anyone interested in participating must sign up and come
after school on September 24- 28 to practice. ○ You will be assigned to a experiment on October 2nd○ You must come after school all those days or you can't
participate.
Aquaponics Garden● What is it?
○ It’s a system in which fish waste is used as a source of nutrients for plants to grow.
● Our garden is located on the right side of the A building. ● Responsibilities:
○ Feed the fish○ Clean the tank and fill it with water when running low○ Make sure the water is running smoothly through the pipes
■ If not, pull the plants out and cut down their roots.■ If water flow is still not running well, ask an officer, Mrs. HD or Mr.
Kapela to check the valves.● You must check the Aquaponics garden every week on the day you are
assigned. If you can not make it a certain day, please inform Joseph or Nika three days in advanced.
Promotional Committee● This committee promotes the sciences and recycling
throughout the school.● Responsibilities:
○ Creating banners and posters for every activity we do○ Organizing fundraisers
■ Childnet Drive■ Collect for a Cure
● The first activity is to create banners explaining what can and can not be thrown in a recycling bin. ○ Officer in charge: Recycling Coordinator Micaela Brena
● If you have any ideas of new fundraisers we can participate in, please email an officer or Mrs. HD.
