Now, some tips for success …

Remember the three R’s …

• RESPECT – showing consideration for other people

• RESPONSIBILITY – developing a sense of duty and accountability for our own actions

• RESOURCEFULNESS - the capacity to get things done using the resources we have available – such as our personalities, skills and abilities, creativity, willingness to work hard, and smart thinking – to achieve our goals

• * Also, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Surround yourself with books … not just for school but for your own reading pleasure!

Spend time at the library.

Consider more than just the plot when reading.

Build your knowledge of literary terms.

Ask questions if you don’t understand.

Never give up. Ask for help if you need it.

Practice academic integrity.

Think deeply … don’t just settle for the obvious.

Try to see and understand different perspectives.

Don’t be afraid to share your ideas.

Weigh your words carefully.

Don’t be afraid to collaborate with and befriend those who are different from you.

Work on building your vocabulary – don’t just memorize lists for tests.

Try new things in your writing.

Weigh your priorities carefully,set clear goals, and follow them.

Don’t let this be you! (Okay, admit it … is this you?)

Don’t wait for “last-minute panic” to set in.PACE YOURSELF!

Find joy in each day …take time for simple pleasures.

Pay attention to spelling …

and homonyms …

and apostrophes …

and other punctuation marks!

Don’t make the teacher snap.

Remember that good students aren’t just “smart” students – they demonstrate MANY QUALITIES that

help them succeed.
