Course description: Accelerated 7th grade Common Core Math What is Common Core? Understanding mathematics at the
conceptual basis – and well enough to use the concepts to solve real-life problems.
Our students will work in the 21st century marketplace – and we want them to be prepared for it! Many jobs require people to think, reason, and use technology wisely.
Common core math will not just require students to memorize and recite, but to evaluate and explore.
This class moves fast (hint: Accelerated). Some concepts will be similar to elementary school, but now the emphasis will be on using prior skills to solve and explain problems, as well as being able to defend answers.
Students who are successful will be able to take Integrated 1 in 8th grade. This course is the entry level high school course.
Let’s look at the Syllabus....
Classroom guidelines: Homework - is usually 5 problems or less. If a problem asks for an explanation, it should
be written in complete sentences. Each month students will check out a mini-
book to use for class and homework. It remains in their backpack at all times.
Accelerated Syllabus. Two-dimensional geometry Integers and rational numbers Similarity Rates, ratios, percents, and proportions Linear relationships Probability Three dimensional measurement Samples and populations Pythagorean theorem Exponential functions and radicals
Extra Resources... Regular red textbook On-line help to download practice and
even some videos. The codes are contained in each chapter of red textbook.
