The Czech Republicin the heart of Europe

Prague is among the most frequently visited cities in the world. Places of

interest for tourists are not, however, concentrated just there. Every part of

Bohemia and Moravia has something to offer visitors.

For some it is old cathedrals and picturescue coves of historical towns,

others value the silent mountain valleys or the mysterious atmosphere of

romantic ruins and ancient castles.

The Karlstejn castle is one

of the most visited sites in

Bohemia.

It was built under order of

Charles IV from 1348-

1355 to serve as the

repository of the Czech

crown jewels.

Vamberk´s lace

Bobbin lace and the town of Vamberk

(which is situated in the middle-north part

of Czech republic) cannot be thought apart

from each other. As can we read in old

chronicles, tradition of lace-making in the

area of Vamberk is more than 400 years

old.

Skilful lace makers were straggle over the

whole Orlicke mountains (mountains in the

north-east of Czech republic), especially in

the area of Vamberk.

Blacksmith

This old craft is one of most

widely used crafts in our

country. The beggining of

this craft can be placed to

Kelt´s times.

Recently it is used for house

decorating and as an art-

craft.

Pottery

Pottery workshop is also very popular in our school .

Fish-pond cultivation

The first fishponds may well have been established during the reign of Charles IV. One of

the oldest and largest ponds in the Třeboň region, Dvořiště, is datable back to the second

half of the 14th century (1363). In 1450, there were already as many as twenty ponds

covering about 700 hectares

Czech kitchen and traditional recipes

Bohemian cuisine is influenced by two major culinary themes: the German-Czech

culinary tradition, with its strong regional variation, dominating naturally in those

part of the land which were inhabited mostly by Germans – and Czech Slavonic

cooking and eating customs, which are entirely different from the cousine of other

Slavic countries.

Czech traditional songs and dances

Czech traditional songs are connected to clothing. In some areas people used to

wear those clothes to present days but only for special events.

„Three Kings“

Our children like to sing. We often organise performances at some special

events (for example Christmas, Easter and the end of the school year).
