Extensive Safe School Plan Safe School Team that meets on a regular basis Active PBIS Team with data collection to identify

Walkers and Car Riders released at 2:45

☼The building is built to use daytime lighting to reduce energy costs.

☼It also uses thermal heating and cooling to reduce energy consumption.

Curriculum Goals

MathematicsThe mathematics curriculum is organized into five strands: (1) Operations & Algebraic Thinking; (2) Number & Operations in Base Ten; (3) Number & Operations - Fractions; (4) Measurement & Data (includes volume) and, (5) Geometry. Problem-solving strategies are embedded into each of the 5 strands. We also integrate the eight (8) “Standards for Mathematical Practices”.

Grade five is a pivotal year. It is a culmination and synthesis of what has come before in grades K through 4 and a transition to the greater independence and responsibilities students need to exhibit in middle grades.

Koontz Intermediate 20 Day Plan

Koontz teachers will implement an extensive 20 day plan to support students with PBIS Expectations Seven Habits Agenda Use Organization Skills Classroom Team Building Leadership Roles in the School.

Dress Code Primary goal is student learning

Clothing and appearance that is disruptive or distracts from that purpose will not be allowed

Shorts and skirts must be an appropriate length hand’s width from the knee

Pants should be worn at the waist Undergarments must be covered Tops with straps must be appropriately wide

inappropriate or drug/alcohol related will not be allowed

Transition Activities

Rising 5th grade students and teachers visit Koontz Estes on Wednesday, February 26th from 12:45-2:00 Glen Arden on Thursday, February 27 from 12:45-2:0O Avery's Creek on Friday, February 28 from 12:45-2:00.

Monday, March 3-Parent Orientation 5:00-7:00

Transition Activities Continued

Monday, April 7th-25th- Ms. Rice and Koontz Rambassadors visit each 4th grade classroom for a transition presentation Elementary counselors will assist in this presentation Elementary counselors will provide additional

transition activities to help prepare your child for Koontz Intermediate School.

Ms. Rice and Koontz office staff will arrange for small group tours with parents if requested. Tours on Wednesday Mornings from 8:00-9:30 with
