Pocket full of posies = used to stop the odor of rotting bodies thought to cause the plague
Ashes, ashes! = the church burned the dead when burying became too difficult

Bubonic Plague- painful lymph node swellings
Septicemic Plague (also called “blood poisoning)- attacked the blood system
Pneumonic Plague- attacked the respiratory system
The Bubonic Plague

• Oozing pus and blood• Dark blotches Black
Death!• Mortality Rate: 30-75 %
• Once it explodes, death soon follows
The Septicemic Plague• Attacked the blood
system • Skin turns deep shades
of purple (almost black) The Black Death

• People living in the Middle Ages thought that God was punishing them for their sins so he sent the plague down to kill them
• Religion controlled everything• No scientific reasoning behind this theory
But this is what ACTUALLY caused the Black Plague
