THAILAND CREATIVE AND DESIGN CENTRE By Masnunah Hj Mohamad Yassin, IBTE Sekolah Vokasional Nakhoda Ragam Campus
The study visit by the delegation from the Brunei Darussalam Library Association continued on the second day with a visit to the Thailand Creative & Design Center located on 6th Floor of The Emporium Shopping Complex 622 Sukhumvit 24,Bangkok 10110 Thailand. It is open on Tuesday – Sunday (Closed on Monday) from 10.30 am until 9.00 pm. This library is really impressive. Even with members having to pay for membership subscriptions, the library is always packed and crowded. The design of the library is unique with a variety collections of materials and its location is strategic in a
shopping complex.
Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) was established in 2004 under the government to connect and promote interaction among creativity, skill, cultural asset and business conducive to creating quality products and services that meet the global market demand. TCDC pushed forward the development of creative economy in 2008 to promote creative entrepreneurs as the key element of Thai economic driving force. Also, TCDC has built a knowledge management network through 14 miniTCDCs nationwide and opened TCDC Chiang Mai in 2013 as a center for exchanging creative ideas and readying regional entrepreneurs to keep up with ever-changing global demand. TCDC constantly develops ways to manage knowledge as well as to share and connect creativity with business practices, making it possible that imagination can change your life.
We wish to thank Ms Tritawan for showing us around the library and its facilities. There was a presentation of tokens at the end of the visit.

CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING LIBRARY By Amal Syukriyyah Hj Kahar, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali
The last destination of the study visit in Bangkok on the 18 February 2016 is The Faculty of Engineering for Chulalongkorn University Library or Chula Engineering Library, which is located in Payathai Road of Patumwan Bangkok. It is a 2 storey-library on the 3rd and 4th floor of Building 3.
The library is open every day except Sundays and during Public Holidays.
Coming into the library, what caught our eyes the most is the interior setting of the library; no racks and rows of books taking center-stage. We see students deep in their studies, having animated discussions all around and many kinds of seating areas provided for their convenience. Chula Engineering Library is quite the unconventional library.
The study spaces are namely; i) Step Reading Zone: Open space with table and cushions on the 2
nd floor.
ii) The Box: Bunk-like multimedia zone with All-In-One computer
system installed on the 2nd
floor.
iii) Cubie Study & Counter: Very creative study carrels with netted walls on the 1
st floor.
iv) Seminar Room: Room with a smart TV and smart Whiteboard. v) Quiet Room: Individual seating around the room with a large table in the middle located on the 1st floors near the stairs. Go to page 8
Wadah Perpustakaan.Bil.5, Mei 2016 Page 8
From page 7 vi) An enclosed room for PC use, located on the 2nd floor. This setting of a study table located beside the books collection in the library, looks almost normal On another note the book collections are kept inside a room on the 1
st
floor. They also have a separate room for Journal Collections located upstairs on the 2
nd floor.
Below are the main collections in the library:
Chula Engineering Faculty Collection Collections of 140 books that have been written by Chula Engineering Faculty members in the occasion that the faculty celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.
Research Collection Collection of research published by Chula Engineering Faculty members and students. The work is registered in central catalog and Chualinet also.
Miscellaneous Collection Collection of books that cover interesting topics such as political sciences, traditional medicine and Thai herbs.
Dhamma Collection Collention of Dhamma books that have been donated when Dhammavit auditorium was being built.
The library also offers services and facilities for instant
online content namely Public Access Catalogue and
Databases such as Science Direct and also document
delivery between all branches of Chulalongkorn
University Libraries.
All in all, it is interesting to note how user-orientated
the library is with more focus on users and the library
having a heavy role in the knowledge-sharing process.
The visit ended with a presentation of tokens of
appreciation between BLA and Chula University
Engineering Library in front of the library entrance.

STUDYING AT POLITEKNIK BRUNEI by Aizuddin bin Abas
At first, Information Science (CISC) was a new and unfamiliar subject to me, however, when the first semester started, I began to understand and familiarize with the contents. When the second semester started, we were introduced to our primary module such as collection development, information retrieval and storage, and a basic overview on web technology. A more comprehensive subject on CISC is presented to us such as management information professional, information system and development, and some direct library subject such as information heritage, and special library. For the final semester, a project or FYP (Final Year Project) was assigned to us where we used our knowledge gained from the previous three modules and to provide a real life work-like project
via producing a website from scratch of HTML5 and CSS. I designed an individual website called LegaBru Heritage webpage and attached with a presentation on the planned project. I was given a period of 3 months to accomplished the project, and I learnt a lot especially on time management, and 3 months not enough to create a published website. When my supervised work attachment started at UBD library, I was shown the inner mechanism on UBD library system and its departments. During this time, I was able to utilize many theories learned during my semesters at Politeknik Brunei and understood them more clearly than learning them by just theory. Experience gained during my attachment will be invaluable for my career pursuit.
