Project Feature - Project Baseline:Lake Iseo

Project Baseline at Lake Iseo (Italy) wasestablished by the North Coast Diversgroup in 2013. The team began their long-term underwater monitoring efforts byestablishing seven stations along thesouthwest shore of Lake Iseo. In additionto documenting these Stations on a regularbasis, the team has established acooperative arrangement with the ItalianCoast Guard and Provincial Police to helpremove derelict fishing gear and nets fromlocations along the coast of this lake. Overthe course of three months the team hasrecovered four nets, each measuring ~100meters in length.

The team is also involved with the CoastGuard and the municipal administration ofTavernola Bergamasca to determine a planfor the recovery of illegally dumped tiresfound near the team's underwatermonitoring stations.

Last month, the team continued theirannual participation in a program called"Clean Seabeds" by presenting ProjectBaseline to event attendees. This summer, team volunteers plan on adding two morelong-term monitoring stations as well asestablishing protocol required to rebuild thelocal fish population in the areas teammembers love to dive.
