“WINTON’S NEWS FOR WINTON”
COLOUR version available on www.thewintonherald.com
Last week Dean Timms a cabinet maker by trade from Toowoomba worked with and supervised a band of local furniture enthusiasts in restoring fire damaged furniture from the museum section of the Waltzing Matilda Centre.
Winton Creative Arts group took on the task of organising this restoration by obtaining a RADF grant to bring Mr Timms to Winton.
Items such as a large table from the reading room and historic pieces of furniture that were rescued after the fire have all been successfully restored.
The group spent five days flat out sanding and polishing.
This was Mr Timms third visit to Winton having conducted furniture making and restoration workshops on two previous occasions.

An upgrade on the Supper Room and Shire Hall commenced in mid-December, with works completed in April 2016. SUPPER ROOM: Repairs to update the Supper Room facilities include: Vinyl flooring repaired; Installation of stainless steel bench top; Relocation of wash basin. SHIRE HALL DRINKS SERVERY: Council approved the construction of a fully enclosed designated Drinks Servery area to be constructed on the eastern verandah at the Shire Hall.
The purpose of the area is to provide users of the Shire Hall to have servery access from both within the hall area and from the verandah.
The construction of the servery is consistent with the aura and high standard of the hall and maintains the professionalism of the complex.
Specific items include extensive serving benches with lockable roller doors, a cold water sink, storage cupboards and a complete cold room with a glass door servery access. The area is air-conditioned and has a fan installed for extra comfort.
The work was successfully completed by a local contractor.

Heritage Restoration Project
Mr Dean Timms, visiting Winton for the Furniture Restoration Project, also brought with him a 1930 vintage 6 gallon Petrol Bowser which he restored for the Winton Heritage Truck Museum. He had taken this treasure, then in several pieces, to Toowoomba two years ago. He said he spent approximately 40 hours restoring this piece of history as he had to search for or make a number of missing parts. Robyn Stephens said a special display will be set up for the restored treasure at the Truck Museum.
