JAN ROSSEEL | BELGIAN AUTUMN - A CONFABULATED HISTORY 26.06 - 04.10.2015 FOMUIn the early 1980s, the Brabant Killers turned into a collective night-
mare for the people in Belgium. The gang was not only responsible
for a series of armed robberies, they were also notorious for their
use of violence. Thirty years on, Rosseel delves into the memory of
Belgium to tell this confabulated tale.

IN THE PICTURE | A PHOTOGRAPHIC SERIES BY FRITZ MAYER VAN DEN BERGH 30.06 - 08.10.2015 MAYER VAN DEN BERGH MUSEUM The intimate space of the Mayer van den Bergh Museum boasts not
only an impressive art collection, but also hundreds of photographic
images from the family archives of Henriëtte Mayer van den Bergh,
founder of the museum, and her son Fritz. The images portray an as-
pect previously unseen: the entourage and daily environment of the
people who established the museum. The images give true insight
into the Belle Époque era in Antwerp. However, we will never know
the stories behind them. The museum is therefore looking further
into the life of Fritz and his family. Visitors are welcome to assist in
this quest.

ON THE JOB FOR VICTORY24.09.2015 - 30.01.2016 HOUSE OF LITERATUREIn April 1917, the United States entered World War I. They used all
means available to finance war efforts and enthuse American citizens
for the battle. Popular American and foreign illustrators and poster
designers were called upon to produce propaganda posters. The
message they conveyed was that labourers and soldiers should unite
for a glorious victory. War bonds were issued to finance the billions
of dollars in war expenditure.
This unique exhibition displays dozens of posters from the
collection held by the Letterenhuis and shows how these posters
preached frugality and encouraged American citizens to work at
war machinery manufacturing plants on behalf of the American
economy.

FOOT PRINT | THE TRACK OF SHOES IN FASHION 03.09.2015 - 14.02.2016 MOMUThe exhibition ‘Foot Print – The Tracks of Shoes in Fashion’ telling

on those fashion and shoe designers who left their footprint on the
world of shoes by means of the exquisite and innovative designs they
created. Their craft and art came together in architectural shapes,
leaving a footprint on the fashion images of their time. The exhibition
will include insights into the evolution and design of the shoes on
display from the individual designers and creators, many of whom
have influenced footwear for decades.
The exhibition is based on the long-term loan to MoMu from
shoe collectors Geert Bruloot and Eddy Michiels, and will include
early and iconic work by Martin Margiela, Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann
Demeulemeester, Tokio Kumagaï, Roger Vivier and many more. The

AUGUST SANDER | MASTERPIECES & DISCOVERIES 23.10.2015 - 14.02.2016 FOMUTo commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the Photography
Museum, a large-scale exhibition will be held at the museum,
providing an overview of the works of renowned and iconic German
photographer from the interwar period, August Sander.
August Sander is considered one of the most influential photographers
of the last century. His series People of the 20th Century is an attempt
to identify the entire social order using hundreds of portraits. But
to reduce Sander to this one series would be to do him an injustice.
Besides this project, the exhibition provides a kaleidoscopic overview
of several topics, spanning five decades.

POWER FLOWER | FLOWER STILL LIFES IN THE NORTHERN LOW COUNTRIES 28.11.2015 - 27.03.2016 ROCKOX HOUSEIn Flanders, Brabant and Holland, art is traditionally characterised
by sharp observations of nature and a search for naturalness.
Nevertheless, until the sixteenth century, plants and flowers were
only added to brighten the edges of depictions of saints in books of
hours. Due to a growing interest in botany and a burgeoning love
ofnature around the year 1600, artists began to look at flowers as
somewhat of an independent theme. Painters were captivated by
the ‘Power Flower’. Works by Jan Brueghel, Jan Davidsz. De Heem,
Osias Beert, Daniël Seghers, Rachel Ruysch proudly display the most
beautiful bouquets at this exhibition.
