He was born in Spain and he died in France , where he was searching peace

and he avoided of violence, which he hated.

In 1792 he became deaf. At first his pictures radiated lightness

and happiness.

Goya’s famous work ‘Saturn Devouring

His Son’  is a depiction of the Roman myth of

Saturn.

This is one of the paintings that Goya

painted directly onto the walls of his own house.

The painting is the sister of The Second of May, 1808.

Together, the two canvases represent an uprising by the Spanish people against

their Napoleonic occupiers.

theme of controlled violence, using bright reds, maroons, and pale greys

that communicate organic mutilation.

In the 1950‘s, Nitsch conceived of the Orgien Mysterien Theatre.
