Exit Through The Gift Shop: 65-70 minutes.
Disequilibrium: Terry breaks his leg when trying to sort out his big art exhibition.
“It was all going wrong, sounded like he needed a little bit of help” –Banksy.
This represents Thierry as being a little bit stupid and irresponsible: To hear a well-known and professional artist say you “need help” and that it’s “all going wrong” shows the audience that he
could be making a fool of himself.
Another Disequilibrium: Thierry is trying to plan out, with some professionals, his art exhibition, but doesn’t know the capacity of the venue and “didn’t have a clue about a lot of the final
logistics…”
This again represents Thierry as being a bit irresponsible as he wants to pull of this amazing art show to impress everyone, but doesn’t know how to with not long left until the exhibition starts.
Close up: Here Thierry is on the phone and lighting a cigarette. The iconography could suggest that he is starting to get things organised for himself: shows he’s starting to realise how serious this
is and that maybe he’s not as stupid as he was originally being portrayed.
Over the shoulder shot (kind of): shows the audience Thierry’s point of view. He is also positioned above the other people in the room with the camera at a low angle. This shows Terry is still in charge regardless if he knows what he’s doing, giving the audience a sense of enigma on whether or not the
show will go on.
Shot of Banksy’s quote and jokey non-diegetic music: The “I don’t mean that in a good way” and the jokey music suggests that Banksy and Shepard Fairy think he is a bit of a joke and a fool.
