Criteria for Choosing VCE Subjects

• Choose subjects you enjoy• Choose subjects you are good at• Choose subjects that are prerequisites for, or

are relevant to, tertiary courses you are thinking about

Do NOT choose subjects because:• Your friends are doing them• You have heard they are easy• Other people have advised you to, but you

don’t like, or don’t do well in the subject• They are scaled up

If you’re not sure………..

• Choose a broad range of subjects from different learning areas to keep your options open

• Attend tertiary open days – weekends throughout August

• Check your Morrisby Report subject suggestions

• Consider a VCE VET (Vocational Education & Training) subject

Creative & performing arts courses Many courses in Design,

Communications, Media, Advertising, Architecture

VCE VET (Vocational Education & Training) subjects

• VCE VET subjects can form part of your VCE program

• They have a more practical, hands on focus

• Most are two year programs

• Enable you to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification (e.g. Certificate II in Hospitality) and your VCE at the same time

• You may receive credit towards further vocational training at TAFE

VCE VET subjects

• Wide range of programs to choose from

• Two delivered at Kingswood: Hospitality and Multi Media

• Most offered externally, e.g.: Box Hill Institute, Swinburne

• Attendance generally half a day per week

• Contribute to the ATAR

• VCE VET subjects attract a fee

Lightmare Traineeship (Games Design)

What it involves:• One day a week training at Box Hill Institute

(Wed or Thurs) for 6 months

• 7 hours per week online (from home) paid work experience with Games Developer - Lightmare Studios

• What you learn: 2D concept sketching, pixel art, 2D & 3D animation, 3D modelling, texturing

Lightmare Traineeship

• Awarded a Cert III in Information, Digital Media & Technology

• Gain credit towards ATAR

• Enables you to progress to further study in Games Design at tertiary level

• Information session for interested students later in term 3
