McKenney’s completed a largescale variable refrigerant zoning (VRZ) retrofit to curb energy costs at a metropolitan Atlanta church anddaycare center.

The ChallengeMcKenney’s had to install the VRZ at the multi-storied church with aging infrastructure and architecture. There could be no downtime in air conditioning to the daycare facility—which the existing system primarily served—and the team had to adhere to lengthy “no noise” hours.

The SolutionThe team installed all equipment while the existing system was online. As a precaution, work began in the fall so the cooling system could be modified when those electrical circuits weren’t needed. Also, much of the installation was done after daycare hours to safeguard the children.
