1. General Remarks
In 2015, 134 beneficiaries including children and elderly attended Orran. Children with
special needs are five. Children who have parents with special needs are 12.
Children under the care of a single mother are 41
Children under the care of a single father are 5
Child with no parent on both sides is 1.
Children who have lost one of the parents are 16

2. Educational Assistance to Children
2.1. Classrooms and Workshops
2.1.1 Classrooms
The children attend their daily classes to do their homework with the assistance of their
teacher and the volunteers. Subsequently, they are involved in the workshops, and other
activities.

2.1.2 The Workshops
The chart below reflects the number of children attending the workshops in the last
quarter of the year.

Since October, the children are also taking dance lessons. The older students are taught
by Anahit Kirakosyan and the younger ones by Seda Grigoryan. There are 42 children in the
dance groups.
From the months of January to April some of the children were also included in a marching band.
The band was organized by the Armenian Apostolic Church Diocese of Gougark for the purpose of
performing in the April 24 March.

Twelve children of Orran are taking part in drama. The class is led by teacher Gayane
Manoucharyan who is assisted by actor, vocalist, producer Armen Nersisyan.
Twenty children took part in classes on the environment, a program funded by Hrair and
Anna Hovnanian Foundation. Their teacher was Susanna Avagyan.
In the months of July and August, the children also had art classes led by Gayane Grigoryan who
also teaches at the Children’s House. Ten children ages 10 to 16 took part.

2.2 Volunteers
It is a beautiful tradition to have a number of volunteers at Orran helping the teachers and
children.
Peace Corps volunteer Whitney Doran was volunteering at Orran from January to August.
She was replaced by Boris Kiva Brook.
The students of UWC Dilijan international college have been coming to Orran to
volunteer. Thirteen to fifteen students were involved in the volunteer program for the first and
second quarters, 11 to 14 during the third and fourth quarters. Datev Ayvazyan was the
supervising administrator for the volunteers.

3. Cultural Education
3.1. Events
We held over 50 events at Orran organized by the teachers, volunteers and students. Below
we present some of our events from January to December.
January 16 - Ter Nerses held a House and Water Blessing ceremony.
January 26 - 35 children were hosted at the Salute coffee house by proprietor Ani
Khatchaturyan.
January 28 - Orran children took part in the St. Sargis celebrations at the church yard
organized by the prelacy of Gougark.
January 30 - Edward Baghian and Koryun Sarikyan took part in a dueling competition held
in Yerevan. Edward took third place nationwide
February - The art works of ten children of Orran were exhibited at the New York art exhibit
for children ages 6 to 16 with the assistance of Peace Corp volunteer Whitney Doran.
March 14-16 - Three children emerged as winners in a competition called “Miracle”, The
prize is to take part in a youth conference in Aghveran.
March 16 -The middle group children watched the cartoon Anahit at the Lori entertainment
center.

March 17 - Thirty children visited the Vanadzor puppet show. The tickets were gifted by the
Vanadzor Mayor’s office.
January to March - The General surgeon of the Medical Center in Vanadzor Gagik Hamparian,
and general facial surgeon Arthur Simonyan and anesthesiologist Ashot Papian examined all the
children. Thirty eight children were identified as a result of various problems, which have received
the appropriate free medical help, and 5 children had free eye surgery. The doctors also met with the
parents.
April 1-4 - Orran children took part in a four day seminar on setting and designing a holiday
table at the Fine Art Museum.
April 2-4 –The winners of the Miracle competition spent three days at Aghveran discussing
issues being faced by children with special needs. They came back and shared what they had learned
with the rest of the Orran children.
April 11 - The children of Orran celebrated Easter with the volunteers of UWC,
April 24- The middle and senior group children led the march in the March for the Genocide.
April 29- The children attended Flor Asoyan’s dance performance.
April 30-- The children of the older group presented From Centuries Aback to the Future
show dedicated to the Genocide.
May 19- Judy Doran held a discussion with children on issues faced by children with physical
disabilities.
May 31- The children watched a play called There Was and Was Not at the Dramatic
Theater of Vanadzor
June 1- The children took part in a number of activities on the day of Children’s Protection
first at the Stepan Zoryan museum, then at the Fine Arts, museum and finally at Orran.
June 6- All children were invited to a folk concert at the Aznavour Center
June 13- The youngest children took part in the Flower Festival at the Sayat Nova Park.
June 16- Thirty children who were taking classes on the environment visited the ATP in
Margarahovi.
June 19 – YMCA volunteers visited Orran and organized activities for them.
June 20- Peace Corp volunteers spend a day with the children as part of the Border to
Border program.
July 6- The YMCA volunteers visited Orran and taught the children how to make different
toys. They also organized games for them.

July 10- The volunteers at Orran organized a discussion on Toward Hayq and presented a
film on Western Armenia.
July 14-Peter Abajian of PAROS visited Orran, learned of Orran’s work first hand and passed
out school bags to the children.
July 27- Tobacco and alcohol damages was the topic of a seminar for children delivered by
US Peace Corps volunteer Josephine Burns and Orran child Tigran Mkhitaryan, who had
participated in the week-long camp Pampak organized by Peace Corps.
August 30- ՛CEO of Kanaka Construction Company invited 15 children with their teachers to
his summer home by the Debet River for a picnic. Mr. Hoveyan had prepared gifts of school supplies
for the children.
September 8- Orran representatives were invited to UWC to present the work and
opportunities at Orran.
September 12- The middle and senior group children attended the film Louvre at the
Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts. Subsequently they took a tour of the museum
September 18-19- Ernest Voskanyan , Yerevan Orran’s ceramic teacher was in Vanadzor
Orran for two days working with the children and elderly.
September 29- Armenian Caritas representatives Lusine Aghababyan and Ashot Aslanyan
organized a discussion on Regional War on trafficking and migration.
September 30- The children took part of activities organized by YMCA at the Vanadzor city
park.
October 1- Orran celebrated the Day of the Elderly. The students of school number 28
joined in with songs and dances
October 3- Six girls performed a dance number for the celebration of Vanadzor City Day.
Orran also received an award for taking part in the celebrations. The UWC volunteers took part as
well.
October 22- The children visited well known sculptor Sevo at his studio with the wood shop
teacher Ara Ghevondyan and learned about the artist’s work as well as the work of other artists.
October 23- The children met with actor Jivan Sargsyan and director of Zoryan museum
Lena Antaranyan at the museum.

October 24- Orran was cleaned up as well as its surrounding area as the children took part in
the city wide clean up day
October 30- Thirty children were present at the Kzartyan music school to hear a conert
dedicated to Komitas.
November 4. The day of the worker was celebrated at Orran as the head of the Women and
Children Protection Department of Lori province Narek Sargsyan and other representatives visited
Orran. . They spent an hour with the groups, talked to the children. The meeting was covered by
Fortuna TV.
November 5- The Orran dance group won an award from the Lori region festival for their
dance performance at the “National Music, Song, Dance and Recitation” Festival.
November 14- The Orran children with the help of volunteers presented Armenia to the UWC
volunteers.
November 19-- “Kindness in Our Life” was a discussion held between the Orran children
and the visiting children of school number 23.
November 20 – The schools of number 20 and 19 visited Orran with goodies. They also put
on a small performance for the children.
December 10 – At the Lori Enterntainment Center the closing ceremony of Do Good was
held. Orran’s social worker handed certifitcates of appreciation to all those schools who had visited
Orran.
December 11- Kapan’s DOLL NGO young actors presented the Gulbenkian Foundation
sponsored “David of Sasun “puppet performance. The actors were mostly young people who have
disabilities,.
December 19- Orran and friends were at the Christmas Charity Fair, whose main goal was
aimed at protecting the interests of the children with disabilities. The Fair was attended by the
following NGOs: Sheen, Full Life, Crossroads, ARMENIAN CARITAS, Equal Rights and Equal
Opportunities and the Vanadzor orphanage. The fair opened with the blessing of the Lord by Ter
Stephen.
December 19- Orran decorated its Christmas tree with the help of guests.
December 26- The founder of Orran Armine K.Hovannisian and the volunteers of Yerevan
Orran came to celebrate Christmas with the children. They had brought food baskets, shoes and
clothing for the children and some of the other needy families of Vanadzor. The children in their turn
presented a show on Christmas. Taking part in the program were also “SMILE” characters.

4. Social Services
Lusine Akmakchyan held meetings with 186 children and 202 parents. In case of need,
she has referred them to specialists. She also monitored the questionnaire given by Orran to 63
parents.
Ms. Akmakchyan addressed 21 social problems, 4 of which are still in progress. She has paid 85
home visits with the psychologist and the teachers.

5. Medical and Psychological Assistance
5.1 Medical
The Nurse has accomplished the following tasks
Preventive checkups of children.
Group and individual discussion on personal hygiene
Check children for lice and provide shampoo if needed.
Individual meetings with parents.
Was in touch with medical providers taking care of Orran children.
Review results of newly admitted beneficiaries
Monitor the cleanliness of kitchen
Prepared menu
In 2015, 17 seminars were conducted on health and personal hygiene in different age groups.
First aid was given to 112 people. Personal and family counseling was provided to 97 individuals.

5.2 Psychological Services
Orran’s psychologist Vardan Ayvazyan conducted individual and group therapies for all the
children. Work was also done with the parents. When needed referral were made to other
professionals outside of Orran. Sessions were also conducted with the staff and volunteers.

A full staff meeting has been held every ten days.
Once a month a parents meeting was held to address any pending problems and answer
questions
The social worker and a few volunteers took part in a seminar called civic society and
social cooperation.

Orran took part in a meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union where future
developments within the region were discussed.
Working with Mission Armenia, an Orran child with physical disabilities learned the
skills of hair dressing and is currently working at home.
Forty Orran children took part in camp with various organizations.
Ten children were hosted by Sister Arousiag in Tsaghkatzor.
Four children attended Tumo summer camp.
Five children took part in Junior Achievement of Armenia’s summer camp.
Fifteen children were at Gugark camp
In Stepanavan, five children were at the Full Lif’s summer camp.
