Background

• It will have capabilities to serve a variety of missions from docking at the international space station to expeditions beyond low Earth orbit.

• The Orion MPCV (multi-purpose crew vehicle is NASA’s latest spacecraft for human exploration.

• Orion will support four astronauts on missions up to six months long.

Purpose

The purpose of this project will be to redesign the seatbacks for the medium-fidelity mockup(MFM), as well as, redesign the seatback for the flight model.

The medium-fidelity mockup is used for training the crew, testing hardware, and ensuring crewmembers can maneuver as needed. The medium-fidelity mockup is not built to the same high standards and quality that the flight model is.

The main focus will be to design the seatbacks for ease of manufacturing and lowering costs.
