"The Jewish Song Collection of Latvian Composer EmilisMelngailis, 1899­1927: Sources, Song Migration andTransformation"Tuesday, 4/12/16 | 12pm | Nau 342 | Free | **Note new date and time forthis event**During his ethnographic expeditions in the period 1899­1927, pominent Latviancomposer Emilis Melngailis (1874­1954) collected many folksongs, includingJewish songs and melodies. Some of them are versions of the repertoirepopular at the time, and some are unknown from other sources. Ilya Shneyveysand Sash Lurje have been researching the origins of these songs and bringingthem back to life, performing and recording this unique material. Lightrefreshments will be served. RSVP to Kristin Hilgartner, knh5xx@virginia.edu.
