Search: gut instincts energy

homes in the San Diego area that have soul

not everything can be solved with technology...

the internet is very good at solving the logical...it really sucks at solving the emotional...

but this is what a good REALTOR® does already, right?

What is Whuffie?

• ephemeral, reputation-based currency from Cory Doctorow’s Down and Out; in the Magic Kingdom

• roughly equivalent to social capital;

• includes the reputation, influence, bridging capital and bonding capital, access to ideas and talent, access to resources, potential access to further resources, saved up favors, accomplishments and the Social Capital of those who you have relationships with;

• in basic terms, you gain Whuffie by being nice, networked and notable.

there are probably people who I only know online who know me better than my own mother...

Facebook >300 million active users (Nov 09)

Twitter ~18 million (US) (Mar 09)

YouTube >5.5 billion videos watched* (Jun 09)

Blogs >130 million indexed (Jan 09)

*estimated in Apr 09 >120 million videos, 200,000 uploaded daily!

You have a choice...

OR...

From following Elizabeth I know...

• she likes classic style, but with color

• she is a busy mom, running a business, a magazine and homeschooling her daughter

• she is very spiritual

• she is a vegetarian (but may make an exception for bacon)

• she is moving to San Diego

• if I was going to pick out a house for Elizabeth, I’d start with space - enough space to separate her adult entertaining space from the mommy space

• wonderful entertaining rooms - dining and sitting

• not too suburb, not too urban - a newer development in an up and coming neighborhood perhaps

• I haven’t met Elizabeth IRL

From following Laura I know...

• she’s focused on the hyper-local - does great local reporting in Knoxville

• her kids are a little older - teens!

• she loves tulips and sunflowers - she’s big on flowers

• After working for others (with her own stuff on the side), she went full time into running her own business this year

• big sports fan

• loves yoga for relaxation

• revels in occasionally indulging (total sweet tooth)

• I’d peg Laura as a big more urban (beltline) and set in the middle of the action - in a walkable neighborhood with older homes.

• she would need space and a yard.

From following John I know...

• he’s a musician

• he loves Austin and plays an amazing guide for people traveling there

• he’s a bit of a foodie and knows where to find great coffee

• he has a very eclectic taste in music

• he owns many instruments as well as mixing equipment

• I’d find him something with oodles of character - probably old in an urban neighborhood

• but he also needs noise space for his music and lots of space for his equipment

• as a foodie, he probably also needs a decent kitchen

but the very best way to listen is...

building RELATIONSHIPS.

create AMAZING customer experiences.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/daveandsima/1166482591/

embrace the CHAOS.

how to embrace the chaos

• swallow your ego - this isn’t about you, it’s about your customers

• go outside of your comfort zone - meet people and have experiences you wouldn’t normally

• forget secrecy, talk about your ideas - the best way to make a good idea great is to share it with smart people who can give you feedback

• forget practical, go with your gut - emotions are part of being human for a reason. Instincts are present to help guide us to better decisions.

• define success for yourself - what do YOU want to leave behind as your legacy?

“And so it is with luck – unlucky people miss chance opportunities because they are too focused on looking for something else. They go to parties intent on finding their perfect partner and so miss opportunities to make good friends. They look through newspapers determined to find certain types of job advertisements and as a result miss other types of jobs. Lucky people are more relaxed and open, and therefore see what is there rather than just what they are looking for.”

Be Lucky, it’s an easy skill to learn - Richard Wiseman (Telegraph)http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/3304496/Be-lucky---its-an-easy-skill-to-learn.html

GIVE BACK to the community.

giving back

• local - Habitat for the Humanity, local business associations and gatherings, volunteering, organizing fundraisers for local charities

•worldwide - start a movement. Take something you are passionate about and focus as much time and energy on putting it out there...gather other people who share your passion

• to your industry - what have you learned that you can help others learn from? how can you share with your competitors to help your customers?

everyone wins in a community that thrives.

by building those relationships (networked), really listening (nice), delighting customers (notable), embracing the chaos (networked) and giving back to the community (nice, networked & notable) - you gain incredible Whuffie...

social media & technology is a powerful conduit for you to achieve this, but it is your human skills that will win the Whuffie.

now...go forth and raise Whuffie.
