I go to the mall because my friend hang out there.

我去的原因是我的朋友经常在那闲逛。hang out 意为闲逛,此外 hang about / around 亦有此意。They’re hanging about at the street corner, waiting for the pub to open.

他们在街道拐角闲逛 , 等着酒店开门。I hung about for an hour, but he didn't come.
