IDEA GENERATION• Brainstorm together…. What is Affluenza, issues and ideas

surrounding it.

• Collect/Create Personal Imagery-Collect images from National Geographic Magazines

• Identify inspiration from other artists -Look at other collage artists and how they explore ideas, find images that you think are successful

TRANSLATING IDEASUse a range of methods to translate ideas, observations and experiences

Once an artist has decided upon an idea, and looked at inspiration they have many directions which they can take to make art.

In studio art you will be EXPECTED to move beyond realism and make art in a number of different ways. Some artists work in 3 or 4 different ways, sometimes only one.

We will learn about this in the YEARSTART task, but will reference it throughout UNIT 1, including in the exam

Realistic- (Realist Era) Showing people places or things in a way that is true to life. (What we often first aim for, a way we evaluate an artwork, not always the easiest or thebest!)

Realistic- (Realist Era) Showing people places or things in a way that is true to life. (What we often first aim for, a way we evaluate an artwork, not always the easiest or the best!)

• Often the first reaction that that students will have• Based on an image they collected when looking for ideas• Great starting point, historically but often with students realistic

representations will lack depth.. Possibility if you have a HIGH level of drawing skills.

Responsive-Reacting or replying to some influence (RESPONDING TO AN ISSUE)

Barbara KrugerReacting or replying the mass media and advertisingThe theme of body image

The insult roomher provocative, emotionally charged statements about how people regard and treat each other disrupt the decorum of a traditional museum space. bringing the world into her work and her work into the world, she confronts stereotypes and clichés, shattering them with a rigorous critique, a generous empathy and a sharp wit

ExpressiveCommunicating personal feelings, moods or emotions through the use of media, materials or elements

• The prophet by Emil Nolde• Thick, quick lines• Downward gives heavy and rushed

appearance• The way the line is created is

almost more important than the subject matter

Ben Quilty-Expressionist painter

• Often can still be representational

Descriptive-Telling a story or conveying a message through description

•Barbara Hanrahan

• Naive childlike innocence. Pattern, detail and story

Interpretive-Identifying and explaining meanings from a particularly perspectiveAn artists perspective on war.. Ben Qulity, Shaun Gladwell.. Others…

Shaun Gladwell

Abstract-Something non representational

• Jackson Pollock-American Abstract expressionist 1950’s

• “Jack the dripper”

Kandinsky

Analytical-Communicating messages and meanings through a structure

• Kruger again

She always uses big blocky text, black and white images…

Jenny Holtzer

• Challenges our everyday truths…… using short statements called truisms…

The structure of the short statement in different ways…

We will begin by creating a responsive piece….
