GeneralOverview:

AccordingtotheMinistryofPopulationandEnvironmentDepartmentofHydrologyandMeteorology–thecurrentrainfallandriverwatchshowsbelowthewarninglevel.

Thefloodsandlandslidesareaffecting36districtsofEastern, Central, Western, Mid-Western and Farwesternregions.AccordingtoNRCSdistrictchaptersandsubchapters,113peoplelosttheirlives,61areinjured,3932havebeendisplacedand15094familiesare affected by the floods and landslides. 1293houses are completely damaged and 2024 arepartiallydamaged.

Respective district chapters are closely workingtogether with District Disaster Relief Committee(DDRC) and security forces in rescue, evacuation,relief distribution and assessment; and have beenparticipatingindifferentclustermeetingsaswell.

Coordinationandpartnership:

NepalRedCrossSociety(NRCS)isparticipatingandsharingtheNRCS'responseactivitiesinCentralNaturalDisasterReliefCommittee(CNDRC),MinistryofHomeAffairs(MOHA)andNationalEmergencyOperationCenter(NEOC)meetingsregularly.

NRCSDistrict chaptersare closelyworking togetherwithDDRCand security forceswhile rescuing,evacuation,reliefdistributionandassessment(InitialRapidAssessment(IRS)andDetailAssessment)in the districts. District chapters are coordinatingwith INGOs and local level organization for theresponse,relief,assessment,cashsupport(PyuthanDistrict,ArkhaandPhoplayVDC)andshelter.

Nepal Red Cross Society EOC is publishing the situation update sit-rep in regular basis and alsocirculating the updateswith government, UN, Partner National Society (PNSs) and other relevantstakeholders. NRCS is in close coordination with International Federation of Red Cross and RedCrescent(IFRC),in-countryPNSsandotherHumanitarianCountryTeammembers.

Response

NepalRedCross:NRCShasdistributed1747fullsetsofNFRIs,1141tarpaulins,217blankets,12familytentsand325hygienekitsthroughtherespectivedistrictchapters.Asapreparednessmeasure,NRCShasstockpiledof about 30,000 NFRI sets, 1000 Shelter Toolkit and additional 59,000 Tarpaulins throughout thecountry.

As an immediate response, NRCS regional/zonal warehouses (Birgunj, Pokhara, Biratnagar,Mahendranagar,Bhairahawa,NepalgunjandCentralwarehouseKTM) havedispatched2391NFRIsetstotheaffecteddistricts,besidefullsetofNFRI–250tarpaulinsand250blanketsalsodispatchedfromBiratnagarregionalwarehouse.

967NRCSvolunteers(NDRT,DDRT,CADRE,Level–AandB,First-AidandHealth)weremobilizedtoassessthesituationandtoprovidesupporttodistrictchapterstoensureeffectiveresponseactivities.

CommunityDisasterManagementCommittee(CDMC)membersandNRCSsub-chapters’volunteerswereactively involved todisseminate the floodalertmessages,whichhelped the communities toevacuate on time (Koshi River Basin area, Banke, Bardiya and Jhapa). Armed Police Force (APF)rescuedtheaffectedbyusingthelifejacketsandrope,thoseresponsekitswereprovidedbytheNRCS(KoshiRiverBasinArea).

Gaps:

• Becauseoftheflood,thestoredfooditemsandcropsoftheaffectedareasweresweptaway,whichbroughtthefoodshortage–itshouldbethemajorconcerntobeaddressedsoonest;

• Thepromotionandsupportofhealthandhygieneintheaffectedareasisprominent-lookingaftertheprobabilityofpossibleepidemics;

• Detailassessmentreportsyettoreceive;•
