What is bullying? IT’S INTENTIONAL (on purpose):

• PHYSICAL: pushing, hitting, kicking, etc…

SOCIAL: Not letting others be part of your group. Leaving kids out

What is bullying? IT’S INTENTIONAL (on purpose):

VERBAL: Threats, name calling, making fun of. Notes, emails, text messaging.

• NON-VERBAL: making gestures and faces that are mean.

• They think it’s cool

• To feel good about themselves

• They think of it as fun (people laugh)

• Someone else has done it to them.

They didn’t fit in

They’re physically weaker than other guys

They’re short-tempered

Don’t give in to the bully’s plan.

2. Get help! Clearly tell an adult what happened and what steps you have taken to solve the problem.

Say STOP! A bully is MUCH LESS LIKELY to keep doing it if someone (ANYONE!) says STOP.

Report!

Tell an adult you trust.

But I’m not a Tattletale!

Tattling/snitching: Telling to make someone get in trouble.

Reporting: Telling to protect yourself or someone else; to keep them from getting hurt (body or mind).

What does a bully need to know?

• It’s wrong

• People don’t like it

• It’s illegal

• There are consequences:– Natural: Loss of friends, loss of respect– Logical: Loss of privileges, freedom– Legal consequences
