Start with Google Search

•First find out what’s on Twitter - search

•# are searchable in Google Search

•People also searchable

•Try a Search ....... #VicPLN #AussieED #Scootle #edchat

Twitter is Public• You follow other people - Other

people follow you

•No ‘friending’ necessary

•@twitterID essential to send message

•Use of # not essential but useful

• Build lists - recommended

Twitter Terminology

•@ + User ID e.g. @camillaelliott

•# - hashtag

•RT - Retweet

•MT - Modified tweet

•DM - Direct message by typing “D userID”

•URL Shortener - www.bitly.com

Behaviours/ Ethics• Acknowledge sources - don’t nick tweets

•Don’t follow everybody who follows you - SPAM!

•Check user’s profile before following, opening or retweeting --- CRITICALLY IMPORTANT - SPAM!

• Follow those who retweet you :)

• Share unique content - be creative

• Answer questions from fellow tweeps

• Be a contributor as well as a reader - don’t just lurk, get involved

• Be concise in wording (save room for retweeters)

•Your profile & ID - be professional

•Avatar - represents you

•Location - provides location perspective

•Public v Private profile

•Security & Privacy - be professional
