humanists. In 1341, he was crowned
as poet laureate in Rome. Many of
his poems are written to a “Laura”
that he met in 1327.
His full name was Durante
degli Alighieri. He was born
in 1265 and died in 1321.
He was an Italian poet. His
greatest literary work was
called Divine Comedy.

He was born in 1324 in Yorkshire,
England. In 1376, he wrote a letter
calling for the reformation of the
church. It was called the “Civil
Dominion.” In 1382, he translated the
Bible into a language that everyone
could read.

with starting the Great Age
of Discovery that lasted from
the 1400's to the early

Atlantic Ocean. He is credited with
discovering the American continent.

Renaissance painter, sculptor,
architect, musician, scientist,

inventor, anatomist, geologist,

marked the end of the final
remnant of the Roman
Empire.

He was born in 1454. He
was an Italian explorer,
financier, navigator and
cartographer. His name was
used to label America.

A series of civil wars fought for the
throne of England. The battles were
between two branches of the royal
House of Plantagenet: the houses
of Lancaster and York. They
occurred between 1455 and 1485.
Henry Tudor (later Henry VII) of the
Lancastrians was the winner.

He was born in 1457 and
died in 1509. He was King of
England from 1485 until his
death in1509. He was
married to Elizabeth of York.
Henry VII
He was a Catholic priest and a
theologian born in 1466. He has been
called "the crowning glory of the
Christian humanists." He wrote The
Praise of Folly, Handbook of a
Christian Knight, On Civility in
Children, Copia: Foundations of the
Abundant Style, Julius Exclusus, and
many other works. He lived through
the Reformation period. He died in
Basel in 1536.

He was born in March 1475. He was
a painter, sculptor, architect, poet,
and engineer. He credited two of the
most influential works in fresco in
the history of Western art: the
scenes from Genesis on the ceiling
and The Last Judgment on the altar
wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.

was the Pope from 1513 to
his death in 1521. He is
most remembered for his
challenging of Martin
Luther's 95 Theses.

He was born in 1477. He was a
Venetian painter of the High
Renaissance in Venice. Giorgione
is known for the elusive poetic
quality of his work, though only
about six surviving paintings are
acknowledged for certain to be his
work.

good works. He wrote the Ninety-
Five Theses in 1517.

He was born in 1483. He was an

High Renaissance. He died at 37.
Many of his works are found in the
Apostolic Palace of The Vatican. He
is best known for his work the
School of Athens in the Vatican
Stanza della Segnatura.
Raphael
He was born in 1489. He was the
foremost painter of the Parma school
of the Italian Renaissance. In his use
of dynamic composition, illusionistic
perspective and dramatic
foreshortening, Correggio prefigured
the Rococo art of the 18th century.
