9/10 Food Technology Cake Decorating Last week students in 9/10 Food Technology decorated cakes to enter in the
show. A standout performance this year with high quality cakes all round.
Congratulations to all the students who participated and thank you again to Miss
Rowlands for her hard work.
Year 11 Metals & Engineering Brad Watt and Albert Wykes have just completed their BBQ project. The
boys made one each using skills they have learnt this year. Their welding
skills are improving each lesson and their marking out is accurate. Look for
the boys at Bush Tucker Day using their new BBQ. Thanks to Miss
Rowlands for guiding them through the process.

Principal’s
Message
This week, the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book
Week, Girls Resilience Program Tuesday and P&C Hot
Chip day Friday. The P&C conducts these days as
fundraising activities for the school. Please support your
P&C as 100 percent of profits are returned to the
school. This money raised by a few benefits all children.
This week we also welcome Carla Valentine to Year 7.
I am sure she will find the opportunities at this school
amazing.
Parents will be receiving their child’s NAPLAN results
this week. NAPLAN is a diagnostic tool that gives a
snapshot of student’s literacy and numeracy
performance in one test on one particular day. This school does not encourage student exemptions
from the test and does not have an increase in mystery
viruses which only affect students struggling in literacy
and numeracy around NAPLAN time. Our results are
an accurate reflection of how our students are
performing on the day of NAPLAN.
The programs operating in the school are allowing
children to improve with a significant school wide shift
towards the higher bands in NAPLAN and some
outstanding results. The challenge for the school in
partnership with families is to increase the pace of this
improvement. This school also has a very small sample
in some years allowing one child to corrupt the sample
statistically making it not a valid reflection of the school.
For example, I would love to say 25 percent of students
scored in the highest bands of NAPLAN which is true.
Indeed, last year I laughed when a school with one child
attempting NAPLAN stated their school report 100
percent of students are above minimum standards. This
is true statistically, but not an accurate reflection of the
school population and the challenges all school’s face in
partnership with parents. I see no reason why Trundle
Central School cannot become a lighthouse school for
literacy and numeracy development if we continue to
be innovative and set high standards. This is my goal but
we are not at this level yet. We should aim high and
work towards this goal.
In some very good news for the community and our
school we have been successful in obtaining a grant for
$6500 from Parkes Shire Council Community
Development fund for the construction of our netball
and tennis court. This is about 7 percent of the
construction costs. This sounds a small amount but it is
a very good start for the project. Ironically 7 percent is
about what I achieved in the Netball unit at school in PE
at school as well.
The standard of school uniform this school is very
good. Recently I visited other schools in the district and
I observed pleasingly that our standard of uniform is
better. However, it can always be improve as I believe
in continuous improvement. Uniform allows all children
to be equal despite parents income. It also allows our
school to be safer as any child not in uniform is easily
identified. Congratulations to parents and please
continue to maintain and improve the standard of
uniform.
The school has been allocated an additional eleven
computers under the government Technology for
Learning Program. This is on top of the schools over
100,000-dollar investment in technology over the last
two years. Some of these computers will be used to
replace older machines. Others will be placed in the
senior room to allow stage 6 students access to
improved technology and others will be utilised in a
purpose built learning support room. This learning
support room will be established in what is currently a
General Assistant room. The General assistant will be
relocated to the Ag Plot shed. The idea is to centralise
all Learning Support into a purpose built area improving
access to resources and technology.
Year 10 students will be selecting subjects for stage 6
study this week. I encourage students to be realistic but
not slam future doors shut because of a failure to
accept a challenge. I have always stated I have as much
respect for a student who gains employment as one
who progresses to stage 6 study. For example, Bryce
Rowley-Howarth started Year 11 and found it difficult.
He went out and actively looked for employment. I
have considerable respect for Bryce as he is progressing
in his life through employment not sitting around
expecting this great country to support him. I believe
Year 10 students have two options be in some sort of
education or find employment. Sitting around making
excuses or hoping the world will cut them a break
without any effort is not an option.
In my time as Principal at Trundle Central I have
declared the position vacant of 4 students. This is not
an easy decision and I give students ample opportunity
to improve effort and behaviour in accordance with
Departmental policy. However, I cannot have
seventeen-year-old people coming to school and not
making a genuine effort to succeed. This is especially if
their attitude and effort is affecting other’s ability to
achieve. Year 10 students should be very aware of my

stance before starting stage 6 study in 2017. The formwork for the slab for our small motors
program has been completed. This project is well
behind schedule as the wet weather has delayed
construction. It appears the way to solve any drought is
to plan to build a shed. Indeed, I was a bit worried last
week as there were four days in a row of sunshine,
almost a drought this winter.
Recently the school has been used at the weekend for
people to enjoy a few beers and some takeaway Pizza.
Obviously we have the best grounds and facilities in the
district so it is understandable that people would
like to utilise our grounds. Maybe it has been a
couple staring at each other romantically over
the basketball court, school Gym, or using the
glow of the state-of-the art computer room or
the sound of the two 3D printers completing a
student’s project to declare their love for each
other or using our high speed WiFi to send
romantic messages. Unfortunately, this couple
have to suffer as I will be asking the local police
to patrol the school because others have just left
the bottles and rubbish for others to clean up. If you
are found in the school grounds without permission, it
is a police matter. I cannot be clearer than that.

K-2 English Day in Tullamore On Tuesday (tomorrow) K-2 are travelling to
Tullamore Central School to combine with their
infants for a ‘fairy tales’ day. The children will be
listening to traditional stories and taking part in
various different literacy activities. The children are
allowed to wear mufti on this day and please
bring your crunch and sip, recess and lunch with
you. The cost is $5 for the bus.
We are going to have a great day!
Parent Helpers K-2 are very excited about how well our L3
(Language, Learning and Literacy) rotations are
going. These happen every morning from 9am-10.00am. We are inviting parents to come
and help out at this time if you have any free time
in the mornings. The children would love to see
you there and show you how clever they are
getting!
Please call the school if you can volunteer.
Ms Downes
Bus Duty Parents of students who travel by bus need to
ensure that they notify the school of any changes to
their child/ren’s after school arrangements before
2:50pm.
Clothing It is vital that your child/ren’s names are written
into any items of clothing they wear to school. This
reduces the risk of confusion and ensures that
jumpers and jackets are returned to their owners if
they are misplaced.
Hats Although Terms 2 and 3 are not part of our NO HAT NO PLAY policy, we are
recommending that the students bring a hat on
sport days and P.E. days to reduce any risks of
sunburn and windburn.
Military Experiences Day
On the 25th and 26th August, Year 5/6 along
with Year 7, will be involved in a two-day
Military experience run by Kelly-Lee Dunn.
Kelly-Lee has run this program in multiple
schools and it is a fantastic opportunity for our
students. It will involve two days of problem
solving and physical activities.

Secondary Assessments & Homework
This week we have our Year 10 students provisionally
choosing their Year 11 subjects for 2017. The students
have had our teachers explaining the various subjects
on offer for next year. We will be working on this as a
class group during this week and then on Friday we will
be conducting individual interviews with the students.
Parents are encouraged to attend this interview
and can book a time through calling the front office. A
letter will be sent home with each student in regards to
this process. Parents are also welcome to call the
school to speak to myself with any questions in regards
to this.
Also this week we are having Scripture on Monday.
Years 7 & 8 will be during period 5 and 9 &10 will
attend period 6. Our Secondary female students have
their last Resilience Program on Tuesday. Our Year 7
students are joining with Years 5 & 6 for a Military
Experience on Thursday and Friday. Another week full
of many and varied opportunities for learning.
This week also our Year 11 students studying Metals
and Engineering will be away on their work placement
block in Dubbo. We wish our students all the best and
hope that they get the most out of their time away
from school.
Our Year 12 Student has completed her Trial HSC
Exams. Well done Jess. Have a quick breath and then
plunge back into study for the real exams which are not
that far away!
Our students represented us formidably across a whole
range of areas at the local show. I had a quick lap
through the Pavilion and was amazed at some of the
creativity that our students have demonstrated. The
cooking was amazing, the metal BBQ that won first
prize was innovative, and the decorative cakes as always
left me flabbergasted.
I would also like to make mention of the three
secondary students who worked tirelessly in the
Merino Sheep section. Albert Wykes -Year 11, Ryan
Taylor - Year 8 and Ethan Whalen - Year 8 were polite,
helpful, excited to learn and enthusiastic to the
extreme! I had several members of the community
coming up to me during the day to compliment them
and the farmers who were displaying sheep couldn’t say
enough just what a massive help they were on the day.
The vast majority of our students are steadily increasing
their welfare levels. The following students have all
reached Level 4.
Year 7-Kylie Fernando, Sue Wu, Hamish Sanderson
Year 8-Lucy Aveyard, Ella Bridger, Hannah Dunn, Amy
Mallard, Willa Stokes, Alex Brown, Robert Stokes
Year 9-Brooke Morgan, Paige Fox, Harrison Williams
Year 10-Tara Coster, Leah Martin, Chelsea Taylor
Year 11-Maddie Coster, Brad Watt, Albert Wykes
Congratulations to all of these students.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any
questions in regards to the Secondary department.
Have a great week

JOKE OF THE WEEK
Mr Hooper and The Cat with the Col-
oured Tail travel through the country-
side in their icecream van. They enjoy
looking for heart shapes (their favourite
game) and making people happy with
their delicious moon-creams. But a
dark feeling is following the cat. Some-
thing is wrong. When the ice-cream van
enters the forest, Mr Hooper and the
cat realise the heart of the world is in danger. Will they be able to save it? A
lyrical fable about love and healing.
The day before the underwater
fancy-dress parade, Alfie got
that strange uneasy feeling .
Sometimes it’s hard to be
brave. Sometimes you get that
feeling. Sometimes you’re just
not ready … until, one day,
you are.
‘Hey there guys. Would you
l i k e a b a n a n a ? ’
‘What’s wrong with you.
Brian? You’re a piranha.’
Brian loves bananas. Trouble
is, Brian’s a piranha. And his
friends aren’t happy about
his fondness for fruit...
