Transcarpathian cuisine. Pastries

By Milena Hrychka

• Transcarpathia is a multinational mixture of culinary traditions with surprising diversity: each of the nations who lived in this generous land, left a few recipes. However, the strongest effect was still made by the Hungarian cuisine.

• There are dishes that came to us from ancient times, and are not found in any other menu - stewed beans, turnips and shovels. Transcarpathians are very fond of fragrant additions and spices and often use red peppers "papryka" and black pepper "poper" as well as garlic, onion, cumin, and all spicy greens.

Pastries• At the same time different sweet dishes and pastries

take a special place in the Transcarpathian cuisine

• Banyky (rolls) with poppy on yeast

Banyky is a traditional Transcarpathian pastry in the form of rolls of yeast dough with various fillings: poppy, apple, cheese or peanut.

• KiflykyKiflyky is Puff pastry, tasty cookies shaped like a horseshoe with different fillings – just melts in your mouth! In my family it is our favourite dish!

• Hombovtsi Hombovtsi look like yeast donuts with fillings of cream or thick jam. The dish is prepared at steam bath and served sprinkled with sugar and nuts or specially fried decoys.

•Welcome to Transcarpathia and taste our pastries!
