Training and follow-up visit by TEC-IVRI Pune on 23rd

and 24th

February 2021 to Alwand,

Zharwad and Vinayaknagar villages of Nashik district under TSP/SCSP programmes

A follow up visit to monitor the progress of backyard poultry (SCSP) and goat (TSP)

beneficiaries was done By Dr SK Das, and Dr Amol Bhalerao, scientists of TEC, ICAR-IVRI,

Pune along with a Livestock Development Officer of State Animal Husbandry department to

Alwand and Zharwad villages of Trimbakeshwar taluka on 23rd

February 2021. At Alwand, they

interacted with the farmers and recorded data on performance and disposal of birds, and

distributed anthelmintic and mineral mixture to all the 10 farmers. The farmers sold 202 number

of birds for Rs 78,000, and 9310 eggs for Rs 53,150; thus total earnings from poultry units was

Rs. 1,31,150 with average annual income of Rs 13,115. The farmers consumed 14980 eggs for

food security during lockdown period. Afterwards the team went to Zharwad village and visited

five goat farmer beneficiaries under TSP programme. They checked health status of goats,

distributed mineral mixture and anthelmentics, recorded data on growth, kidding, disease

occurrence, mortality and sale of goats etc. They also supervised housing, feeding and

management of all the goat units maintained by tribal beneficiaries and interacted with the

farmers for better production and health.

On 24th

February, one day training was organized on “Goat Farming for the Livelihood

Improvement of Farmers”. Ninety five farmers including 92 women attended the programme.

Initially, the participants of the training were taken to Vinayaknagar village arrangements were

made to visit successful goat farmers. Some of the successful farmers shared their experience

with the trainees which helped boost their confidence. Afterwards the trainees were taken to

Zharwad village, where the training was arranged following proper norms of COVID-19. During

the inauguration, local sarpanch, panchyat members, IVRI scientists and LDOs from state AH

depaortment were present. Four resource persons, Dr Santosh U Shinde (LDO), Dr Arun

Kulkarni (ALDO), Dr Bhagwant S Gangurde (ALDO) and Mr Vijay B Bhoye (LSS), delivered

lectures on different aspects of goat farming such as, housing, nutrition, breeding, management

and disease occurrence and marketing etc. Mr KS Jadav, local BDO was the Chief Guest of the

valedictory function, who addressed the participants and praised them for showing interest in

attending the training and also thanked IVRI and state department of AH for organizing the

training programme. Dr SK Das, Principal Scientist, in his address, informed the farmers about

the IVRI Pune Centre and about the TSP and SCSP programmes for livelihood improvement of

the farmers. A few farmers expressed their views and requested to organize similar programmes

in the future. The chief guests distributed certificates to the participants. Dr Amol Bhalerao,

Scientist, TEC-IVRI, was also present during the programme. Dr Santosh U Shinde, LDO,

coordinated the events.
