REVIVAL I. INTRODUCTION  

A. Our heavenly Father has provided for us!

  1. Good beyond compare.

2. Greater things are about to happen.a) Greater opportunities.b) A revival in our

congregation. (1)  Revival changes everything!

(a) Changes the way we

worship

(b) Changes the way we act.

(c) Changes the way we

speak!  

B. At my computer Friday morning.

 1. Overwhelmed with

goodness of the Lord.

2. Instruct you from the book of Nehemiah. a)  Nehemiah a book

of rebuilding.(1) A book about revival! (a)  The Lord’s people had been away.

(b)  The Lord gave Nehemiah a a

desire to rebuild Jerusalem.

(i)  A great deal of physical work.

(ii)  Jerusalem a center of

worship!

C. Jerusalem = their spiritual life!

1. Many of God’s requirements were abandoned.2. The law a thing of the past.

D. The walls have been completed.

1. God’s word brought about a change in the people.

2. Revival took place.3. The word of God got

into in their hearts. a)  Hebrews 4:12

(1)  The word of God like a skillful

surgeon.

(2)  Revival the result!!!

4. Hebrews 13:8. a)  The same principles will bring revival in our

own hearts!! b)  Meaning of revival.

 E. Revival:

1. Revival is not evangelism!

a) Evangelism = winning the unsaved.b) Revival has to do

with the Christian.c) Evangelism - work of the church.

d) Revival - outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

(1)  Possible to have evangelism without revival! (a)  Isaiah 55:11

(2)  Genuine revival brings large scale evangelism!

(3)  Evangelism thwarted by cold hearts!

(a)  A cold heart on fire by revival, evangelism will

take place!(b)  How the Lord brought REVIVAL!!

II. #1 = ACKNOWLEDGING GOODNESS OF GOD 

A. The people praise the Lord.

1. Nehemiah 9:6-15 a) Praise Him for

what He is!

b) Praise Him for whom He is!

c) Praise Him for His covenant!

d) Praise Him for His deliverance!

e) Praise Him for His guidance.

2. Acknowledge all this love was

undeserved!

a) Nehemiah 9:16b) Nehemiah 9:30 

B. 1st = to acknowledge HE IS WORTHY!

1. Nehemiah 9:3  III. STEP #2 = RECOGNITION OF OUR SINFULNESS

A. Nehemiah 9:33 

1. Nehemiah 9:36a) Still under the dominion of Persia.

2. Christians to live and walk in freedoma) Living in a world

under the dominion of another king!

b) Outside of God’s parameters we become

slaves!c) Galatians 5:1

(1) Sin enslaves.(2) Christians go outside the walls of

safety. (a) Varying degrees of slavery!

(b)  With some, like drugs or alcohol. (c) Subtle enslavements are dangerous!

(i) Things like envy, jealousy, greed!

B. Admitting our need for Christ!

1. Jesus died for all sin! a)  One we will not admit!

(1)  1John 1:9 b)  He will not forgive

the sin we will not let go of!

(1)  There has been no repentance!

IV. STEP #3 = BROKEN HEARTEDNESS 

A. Nehemiah 9:1  

1. Without a broken heart there is no repentance.

a) Acknowledging the sin in our

lives!

2. Verse 9:1a) Psalm 51:17c) We become hardhearted!

 3. 3rd step - broken heart over sin!

 V. STEP #4 = THE RENEWAL OF OUR OBEDIENCE

A. Revival is an action!!!

1. Nehemiah 10:29 a) Restored their

family altar!b) Committed to doing the will of God.

 B. Renewal affected their church life!

1. Nehemiah 10:39 2. 2 areas of obedience stewardship and worship!

a) Every male required to give 1/2

shekel of silver.b) Required to give

the Tithe! (1) Nehemiah 10:35

(a) They stopped this also!(b) Told to give to

God what was God's.

(i)  Matthew 22:21 3. Affected their worship.

a) Hebrews 10:24 (1)   “neglect” = "to

fail or leave"

(2) Committed to not fail!

 VI. CONCLUSION 

A. Revival - these 4 steps MUST take place!

1. ACKNOWLEDGING THE GOODNESS

AND MERCY OF GODa) When we don't

deserve it!2. RECOGNITION OF

OUR SINFULNESSa) We need a Savior!

3. BROKEN HEARTEDNESS

a) A truly repentant heart!

4. THE RENEWAL OF OUR OBEDIENCEa) A commitment to

be faithful!b) Commitment to

stay within the walls!
