Top 40+ man Los Angeles Dodgers Pitchers All-Time Roster

May 2011Let the debate begin…Here is more than 40 guys actually 63, as some are equal in rank and some had only a short time with Dodgers. For example if Pedro Martinez was a Dodger for a career he would be top 5 easily. Some have more than one guy for the # ranking. We think you’ll find some great guys here who are great pitchers. Others are great Pitchers you thought were top 5…for example Don Newcombe, he actually only won 149 games in his career with several teams and lost 4 Post season

Dodgers games so he was 0-4 with the Dodgers in World Series/Playoffs. Hence he is actually ranked lower than you may think.

Here you go ENJOY! Its just my opinion…

#4…..RHP Burleigh Grimes Hall of famer Grimes was the LAST legal spit ball pitcher. During the 1920s, Grimes was a standout, twice leading the league in victories and five times topping the 20-win mark. He was durable, leading the league four times in starts and three times in innings pitched. After five straight winning seasons for Brooklyn, his 19 losses in 1925 topped the NL. Following a 12-13 mark in 1926, he was traded to the Giants and was 19-8 in his one season for New York. He peaked as a 25-game winner for Pittsburgh in 1928.

"I used to chew slippery elm - the bark, right off the tree. Come spring the bark would get nice and loose and you could slice it free without any trouble. What I checked was the fiber from inside, and that's what I put on the ball. That's what they called the foreign substance. The ball would break like hell, away from right-handed hitters and in on lefties." - Burleigh Grimes in The Man in the Dugout (Donald Honig, 1977)
