2017 MIRAMONTE VARSITY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTSAs a costly sports program that receives limited district funding, Miramonte Football would not exist without the tireless organizing and fundraising efforts of parent volunteers, to whom we extend our deepest appreciation. We also would like to recognize our major program advertisers for their support, and extend a special thanks to Clark Thompson-Village Associates Realtor, Orinda Shell, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and Mechanics Bank of their generous donations to the football program.
Beginning my seventh year as Head Football Coach at Miramonte High School, I want to thank the Orinda community and all of the great people for their tremendous support needed to keep our program growing and make high school athletics a special time for the student-athletes involved. I’m well aware of the tradition and high standards that have been set by those before me.
In my twelve years as both an assistant coach and Head Coach at Miramonte we have won two NCS Championships and have ten NCS playoff appearances. The entire coaching staff and every player is looking forward to the 2017 season and seeking the 2017 NCS Div III Championship.
Thanks for your support,
Jack Schram

#22 Travis Armistead, Strong Safety, Wide Receiver
Travis is loving his last year playing football with Miramonte. He has cherished all of his friends and the countless memories football has created for him going all the way back to MOL in 3rd grade. Defense has always been Travis’s favorite side of the football, and he loves being able play strong safety which happens to be the same position as his older brother Cannon. Fun for the brothers and parents that they are even the same number! Travis transferred to Miramonte as a sophomore and football was the vehicle that helped Travis quickly be accepted into his new school. It has further allowed Travis to develop some amazing friendships that are certain to last far into the future. Each week and each game is treasured experience that will not come again. Go Mats!
#38 Mason Bell, WR/CB/ST/Ironman
Since we can’t stop time, the best we can do is try to remember every memory worth holding onto. Our son Mason has always made those memories like a factory. From day one he’s had the heart of a lion, and it’s been a pleasure to watch him put it to use out on the field every time he plays. Thank you, son, for letting us be a spectator to your show. We’re fans for life. Can’t wait to see what you do next. #GoMasonGo
#11 Will Cassriel, Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Cornerback – Team Captain
6 seasons of MOL football, 3 seasons of OIS football and 4 years of Miramonte football, the last two on the Miramonte Varsity team. Will played cornerback and receiver on last year’s NCS Semi-Finalist team. He scored two touchdowns in the 2016 season opener against Vanden, including a “pick-six” interception, in a winning effort. As a Junior, he was named Honorable Mention - DAL (Diablo Athletic League), as well as Honorable Mention - NCS (North Coast Section) and he earned a coveted Ironman Award from the Miramonte coaching staff. Will’s most rewarding moment was being elected Captain by his teammates for his Senior season.
#86 liam Childers, Defensive End
Liam first became interested in playing football after attending a rivalry football game between Miramonte and Campolindo. At the time, Liam was on the OIS wrestling team, but felt the experience would be beneficial when transitioning into football. Liam played DE during his freshman year. Both he and his brother, who was on the senior varsity team, wore the same uniform number. After Liam’s freshman year, he chose to participate in track & field (4x400) during his sophomore and junior year. Additionally, he was a dedicated weight lifter and health guru. Now he’s back to playing football for his senior year.
#2 Xavier Clark, Quarterback – Team Captain
Quarterback Xavier Clark will conclude his final season of Miramonte football and his 11th year of tackle football. From the age of 3 he has attended nearly every home Oakland Raiders game, where he fell in love with the game of football. Xavier played pop warner football, quarterbacking for the Berkeley Cougars, Berkeley Jr. Bears and the East Bay Warriors from the second through the eighth grade before coming to Miramonte. This is Xavier’s second year playing on the varsity level and his first year as a team captain. One of his favorite memories playing for the Mats was throwing 7 touchdowns against Alhambra in his JV season. Through football, Xavier has created a lifelong friendships and memories he will never forget.
#3 Ethan Fischler, Wide Receiver, Free Safety - Team Captain
This is Ethan’s 4th year playing for the Mats. He plays Wide Receiver and Free Safety. In addition, he returns kick offs and punts. He was honored to be selected as Team Captain this year as a senior and enjoys leading his team on and off the field. Ethan started playing football in 3rd grade and enjoyed MOL through 8th grade, but could hardly wait to put on pads and a helmet. His passion for and commitment to the game is evident in his work ethic and movement on the field. Ethan is inspired by New York Giant Odell Beckham Jr. In addition to football, Ethan plays basketball for the Mats. Ethan has enjoyed every minute playing for the Mats and although he will miss playing with each and every teammate, he knows the memories they have created together will last a lifetime!
#18 Jack Hansen, Line Backer, Special Teams
When Jack was one year old, his second word was ball. He’s always enjoyed playing catch with any type of ball and often takes his little brothers to Miramonte to play football with them. This is Jack’s second year playing for the Mats. He moved to Miramonte sophomore year with no experience playing football and chose to try out the running back and linebacker positions his Junior year. He started on special teams for the last 2 years and mostly plays near the end of the game. But he loves it and he’s always working hard to get better. Prior to starting football, Jack played a variety of sports including wrestling, rugby, and soccer. When he decided to start playing football he fell in love with it and quickly gained a massive amount of statistical knowledge. He loves watching the BYU Cougars play football and some of his favorite professional players are Julian Edelman and Ziggy Ansah.
#23 Jake Hassard, Cornerback, Receiver
Jake plays both Varsity football and baseball for the Matadors, and has played both sports all four of his years at Miramonte. He first began playing flag football on MOL and OIS teams before playing for the Mats. One of Jake’s favorite football memories was during his sophomore JV season when the Mats Beat Campo. He loves playing cornerback and his favorite player, Joe Haden, is a cornerback for the Pittsburg Steelers. Jake has really enjoyed his experience playing football at Miramonte and will miss playing for the Mats after this season.
#77 Teddy Hoxie, Offensive Tackle, Defensive Tackle
Teddy has been playing on the Miramonte football offensive and defensive line for 4 years. He received Second Team All-League honors his Junior year. He started playing MOL football when he was in 2nd grade. In middle school, Teddy played OIS flag football with many of his Mats teammates. One of Teddy’s favorite football memories was when he recovered a fumble his JV year against Campo and ran it back 30 yards. Teddy has been incredibly dedicated to Mats football earning the Iron man award last year for never missing a practice. Teddy has truly loved playing football with his teammates for all these years. Go Mats!
#31 Asim khan, Wide Receiver, Cornerback – Team Captain
Asim has played football all four years at Miramonte as a receiver and defensive back. He has particularly enjoyed his role as captain on this year’s varsity team. He has fond memories of football going back to his MOL days. Most of the memories revolve around the comradery afforded by the Miramonte program. He especially remembers the Summer practices where the boys would get together to lift and play gator ball. He will always remember the fun he has had hanging out with his friends on and off the field.
#4 Henry Marken, Kicker
Henry has played football at Miramonte for four years and has loved every minute of it. His sports career at Miramonte has consisted of basketball, soccer and track, but football has been his favorite. He has thoroughly enjoyed the family environment set up by Coach Schram starting with his introduction to the team during his 8th grade summer. While on varsity the past two years he has primarily been the kicker, but has spent some time at wide receiver and free safety. Henry’s favorite player as a kid was Edgerrin James of the Colts. He loved his gold tooth! Henry is looking forward to finishing the year strong and enjoying a nice Thanksgiving playing football every day in anticipation of the NCS playoffs!
#74 Mark Mezody, Defensive Tackle, Defensive Line, Offensive line
Mark has been playing for the Mats all his high school years, and this year is his second season on varsity. Sadly, he missed all of last year due to a series of injuries to his right shoulder, although he has made a strong comeback this year as a Defensive Tackle. Mark loves his teammates more than anything, and his favorite thing about football would be the feeling that they get when they win a tough game. The Team has a great group of players, they have developed a special bond over these years and their passion and commitment will carry over into their lives in everything they try. Go Mats!
#57 Nick Miller, Center, Defensive Tackle
Nick’s love for Miramonte football started at an early age as a result of attending games with his Kindergarten class, walking down the street to watch fall practice or throwing the ball around on the field as young kid after the games. He couldn’t wait to be a Freshman so he could finally put on the Mats uniform and be a part of the program. His last four years have been more than he had ever hoped for. While the years have brought a ton of memories, his Senior season has been what will stand out most. Nick will always feel a bond with all his Mats teammates and coaches but there is no doubt he feels a special bond with his fellow linemen, the O & D Line coaches and his Senior Boys!
#32 Jason Paucar, Running Back, Middle Line Backer
I first fell in love with football during my first year of playing the sport in fifth grade for the West County Spartans. I have been playing tackle football for the past 8 years and it is hard to believe that it will all be over soon. I have played all four years at Miramonte, and have loved every second of running the ball for my team. My favorite memory from Mats football would have to be when I scored my very first touchdown against Alameda during JV year. My favorite NFL football player would have to be Colin Kaepernick because he is an inspiration to all backup players. The memories I have formed with my brothers will last a lifetime and I will truly miss putting on the pads and playing under the Friday night lights for Miramonte. I will never forget the love I have for the sport and the feeling of suiting up in pads during game day.
#53 Quinn Rochette – Right Offensive Guard/Defensive Tackle – Team Captain
Quinn lines up on the O-Line at right offensive guard with his twin brother, Kai, at left guard. Quinn also plays defensive tackle, a position that he and Kai alternate between. He has started every game since his freshman year and this year is a Team Captain. This is a tribute to his dedication to the team, the excellent weight-room/conditioning program, and, especially, all his coaches. Asked what is his favorite part about football, he said, “winning.” Quinn is also a hard-working student, carrying a seven-subject course load all four years at Miramonte, a cello player, and an insightful political commentator.
#59 kai Rochette – Left Offensive Guard/Defensive Tackle – Team Captain
Kai lines up on the O-Line at left offensive guard with his twin brother, Quinn, at right guard. Kai also plays defensive tackle, alternating with Quinn. Like his brother, since freshman year, Kai has played every game and this year is a Team Captain. This is a tribute to his dedication to the team, conditioning, and great coaches. Before starting freshman football, Kai fenced, played baseball, soccer, and Ultimate Frisbee. Kai is dedicated to academics, carrying an eight-subject course load all four years at Miramonte. He also is a tenor and alto saxophone player and the go-to guy for electronic and computer repairs.
#28 Peter stehr - Running Back, Linebacker – Team Captain
My football career began with MOL in 5th grade, and my love for football developed from there. At Miramonte, I have played football for four years, two being on varsity. After dislocating my shoulder twice during my Sophomore JV year, I underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason so I could come back healthy for my first year on varsity. My passion for the sport and the inseparable bonds that I have made throughout my career have all fueled my drive to play. My favorite memory in football is scoring a victory-sealing touchdown from the 10 yard line against Campolindo my Sophomore year. The skills I’ve learned and developed here at Miramonte will undoubtedly carry out through the rest of my life.
#16 Jack Vallee, Wide Receiver, Cornerback
Jack started playing football as a freshman at Brookfield High School in Brookfield, Connecticut. He has played a lot of positions throughout high school. He started as more of a defensive player moving from defensive end to outside linebacker to corner, all in the same season. Jack played corner on the JV team his sophomore year and was happy to be part of a program that won the Class M state championship. Coming to Miramonte last year he switched positions again to running back and outside linebacker (again). This year Jack made one final move to receiver and safety. Jack loves playing football everyday - the drills, the conditioning, catching passes in the “red zone”, and the camaraderie of the team. He thinks this year’s team is really special and is happy to be part of it.
#58 Robin van der laan, Offensive Tackle
Football has always been a big part of my life ever since I started playing at the age of 7. I played for regional leagues and Pop Warner until High School. I have played all four years at Miramonte as an Offensive Tackle and I have enjoyed every second of it. My favorite memory was during my JV year when we beat Campo at their home field. I learned a lot from playing football from discipline to being able to overcome challenges. I hope to continue to play football in college next year.
#10 sam Walker, Middle Linebacker, Wide Receiver – Team CaptainSam played MOL flag football from 3rd through 8th grade and this is his 4th year playing for the MATS. He has been on Varsity since sophomore year and has been team captain for the last two seasons. Sam’s favorite football moment was sacking the quarterback with his big brother Ryan at the Dougherty Valley game in 2015. He loves football because it has taught him a good work ethic and how to be part of a team. He will miss playing with all of his friends for the MATS.
Congratulations to all of the graduating seniors!
It has been a pleasure being your coaches and watching you grow and
become young men. We know you will take your experiences playing as
part of a team and putting in the hard work forward with you in life, as
you will always represent Miramonte and will forever be a Matador.
