United States partner with the Google Art Project’s expansion online.

• Simultaneous press conferences in Paris and Chicago

• Anyone in the world with access to Google can see selections from TMA’s collection online at the Google Art Project.

• Masters Series: talk by John Clarke. One of the world’s top scholars on ancient Pompeii.

• Classic Court officially re-opened after renovation.

• TMA acquires seven glass vessels made at the 1962 Toledo Workshops

• TMA announces, with presenting sponsors BCI and BP, that Toledo will be the only U.S. venue for Manet: Portraying Life. The announcement receives national press attention.

On May 4th a Girl Scout Historical Dedication Ceremony took place on the Museum steps followed by an overnight for 1,600 girl scouts.10

• TMA presents the print exhibition For the Birds in Gallery 18 as eco tourists flock to northwest Ohio for the Biggest Week in American Birding.

• Revelation: Major Paintings by Jules Olitski opened in Canaday Gallery.

• The Wolfe Gallery for Contemporary Art opens with Color Ignited: Glass 1962-2012

• TMA hosts the Glass Art Society international conference, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of the studio glass movement.

• 1,500 artists and collectors come to Toledo.

• Masters Series: Conceptual Artist Fred Wilson (and podcast from Wolfe Gallery)

• Tours for babies began in June. • Dr. Kathy Danko-McGhee, TMA director

of education, has studied the aesthetic preferences of babies and toddlers.

• The GAPP artist, Esther Shalev-Gerz completed a residency where she explored labor, and the tools

of labor, through the medium of glass.

• TMA announces the acquisition by the Apollo Society of works of art in glass by five artists: Jun Kaneko, Andrew Erdos, Maya Linn, Jane Bruce and Judith Schaechter.

• Museum mourns the loss of local artist Edith Franklin, a participant in the 1962 Toledo Workshops and loyal supporter.

• CBS Sunday Morning broadcasts a story about the 50th anniversary of studio glass featuring interviews with Jutta Page and Jeff Mack. Museum’s website crashes.

• The Museum’s Season of Portraiture begins with the opening of Authors and Artists from the Time of Manet in the Works on Paper Gallery.

• Museum: People of TMA opens in Gallery 1 featuring portraits of more than 650 Museum visitors and supporters.

• A Community Gallery exhibition opens with works inspired by Manet and created by invited local artists.

• Manet: Portraying Life opens. Positive press stories by the Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Columbus Dispatch and Cleveland Plain Dealer, etc.

• Made in Hollywood: Photographs from the John Kobal Foundation opens.

• Masters Series: Gary Tinterow, director of the MFA in Houston, gives presentation on Manet

• With support from a donor, the Museum hosts black-tie Centennial Dinner to thank members of the TMA President’s Council for their support.

• Leslie Adams: Drawn from Life opens in Gallery 18

• Portraying Life in Toledo, photographs by local residents are displayed in the Community Gallery.

• New parking lot completed– The solar canopy generates 300 KW of electricity for use in

the main Museum building. The roof already generates 200 KW.

• The walkway under the canopy is heated in winter. • Two new handicap ramps will assist our visitors.

• Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass gives TMA its Annual Award for institutions in recognition of the Museum’s contributions to the studio glass movement by hosting the 1962 Toledo Workshops; for its important and sustained contribution to the preservation of the history of art made from glass, and for the creation, promotion and exhibition of Contemporary glass. 27

Exhibitions in 2013

– Aboriginal Art exhibition, Crossing Cultures, will begin in April 2013

– an exhibition focusing on the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie; (fall of 2013)

– Fresh Impressions: Early Modern Japanese prints (largely from our significant permanent collection holdings); (fall 2013)
