Aside from the obvious Wingardium Leviosa spells and divination techniques we’ve learned from Harry Potter, what else can we learn from JK Rowling? Not only did Rowling craft a compelling, addictive story, but her carefully planned series seamlessly evolved from a seemingly simple, magical coming-of-age tale to an action-packed story with mature themes, expanding the story’s reach to a larger audience. Social media is a similar medium – messages need thoughtful planning, keeping in mind the intended audience and creating an emotional connection with users. We need to be masters of storytelling on social media. What if we follow Rowling’s lead, planning our social media messaging and storytelling with the knowledge that our initial target audience could change? In order to connect with users, we need to be nimble in order to develop our story and adapt with our changing users. By welcoming an evolution of sorts, we can optimize the impact of our social media efforts.
