Welcome to the TIGed Newsletter!
You are receiving this newsletter because you have been involved in some
way with the TIGed project since we got started at the beginning of the
year. For some of you, this may have been attendance at a conference
presentation whereas others may have attended TIGed workshops that
have been held around the country. This newsletter is to let you know
about the latest resources and activities developed as part of the program.
Getting the Educator Badge on your profileIf you have signed up for an account on the
TIG website, you can now get an Educator
Badge without needing to go through your
profile settings. Clicking on the following link after you have signed in to
your account will automatically get you the badge. http://
getbadge.tiged.org/
This is useful as you can then search for other
educators within the Community area when
performing a Member Search. Great for making connections with
educators around the world.
Be part of the NZ teacher collaboration database
One of the requests from those attending workshops is that we develop adatabase of TIGed teachers within New Zealand that are willing to be
contacted to set up collaborative projects. Your wish is our command! You
can add yourself to the database on the TakingITGlobal NZ wiki using
the form provided. The database itself is on a protected wiki linked to
from the main wiki. You will need to sign up for a Wikispaces account
(free) if you don’t already have one and then request membership of this
protected section of the site in order to access it. You can feel confident
that your details will only be shared with other educators looking to
collaborate.
TIG lessons and content get the NZ treatment
Lessons contained within TIGed are excellent resources
but do not always align with the New Zealand
Curriculum or the NCEA achievement standards. On
the wiki subject pages, lessons from TIG are supplemented with
descriptions of how they match up with key competencies, NZ
Curriculum levels, achievement objectives and unit objectives. There are
also links to sites with NZ content that align with the theme of the lessons.
This bank has just been started and will continue to grow. See the Ayiti
and the HIV/AIDS lessons as examples of these new resources.

"I think it has really sparked their enthusiasm and has alerted them
to the fact that there is a big world out there and with many
different perspectives. The kids have been proud to share their culture with the kids in Canada.
My students were amazed at the ability of the Canadian students
to articulate about water problems. It was good role
modelling for my students."
