Objective: YWBAT explain the role of machines in energy conversions.

Drill: What is an energy conversion? Give an example of a machine that is an energy converter, and explain how the machine converts one form of energy to another.

HomeworkHomeworkStudy WOW

A wind turbine converts the kinetic energy of the wind into

electrical energy.

Did you know…?The pedicar, introduced in 1973, was a pedal-powered, one-passenger, all weather vehicle. It was conceived as an alternative to the gas-powered automobile and cost about $550. It could reach 15 mph.

Energy Conversions Diagrams

Draw a cross section of the converters below. The cross section should include.

A detailed diagram of how the structure works.

A list of the specific energy conversions and where they occur

Converters: Hair dryer, wind turbine, car engine, riding a bike, water wheel, electric generator, light bulb

Closure

What is the role of machines in energy conversions?

Conclusion Answer

Machines transfer energy from one object to

another to make work easier. For example,

when you use a crowbar to remove a

hubcap, you transfer energy to the crowbar

and the crowbar transfers energy to the

hubcap. The way the energy is transferred

determines how much easier the work is to

do.
