What are air compressors?•Air compressors are mechanical devices
•They compress air in chambers
•The compressed air is transformed into kinetic energy
•The kinetic energy is used to drive pneumatic drills, spray painters etc.

What are The Types?
There are 4 types of air compressors:
•Reciprocating or piston compressors
•Rotary sliding vane compressors
•Rotary screw compressors
•Centrifugal compressors

Reciprocating or piston compressors
•These are the most common types
•The gas is compressed by driving the piston in a reciprocal way
•The gas goes into a pressurized cylinder
•Later the gas is released through valves

Rotary screw compressors
•They use two rotors – one male & one female
•The air enters the chamber and is trapped in the chamber
•The male & female rotors compress the air
•The compressed air is pushed away and makes way for fresh air

Rotary sliding vane compressors
•Consists of one rotor placed inside a water jacketed cylinder
•8-12 blades are attached to the rotor
•The air is forced against the wall
•The air is thus compressed and afterwards released

Centrifugal compressors
•They are called as radial compressors
•They consist of pumps, fans & blowers
•They can create pressures of 8000-10000 psi
