Role of SSCs• In the UK, 25 Sector Skills Councils cover all
economic sectors.• SSCs are ‘Standards Setting Bodies’ and are
responsible for the creation and maintenance of National Occupational Standards (NOS) that describe all ‘tasks’ carried out by workers.
• NOS include ‘What you need to do’ and ‘What you need to know’.
• NOS define Occupations by creating detailed task lists

Occupations in the Land-based Sector• Lantra has responsibility for 17 sectors -
including Agriculture and the Equine sector, Forestry, Landscaping, Fencing and Fish Farming
• Lantra has already defined more than 600 occupations in detail for all Land-based jobs.
• Occupations are defined after extensive consultation with employers in each sector.

Online Tools• Lantra maintains a number of web-based tools to
support Workers, Employers, Trainers/Educators and Researchers
• The main tool is the Online Competence Framework (OCF)
• All 600 descriptions of Occupations are already stored in the OCF.
• The OCF is built on 4 powerful databases that ‘map’ the relationship between Occupational Competence, National Occupational Standards, and Education.
