Locksmiths are the front-liners of security, doing what’s necessary to keep us safe and secure.GS Locksmiths can practically do just about anything that involves a key and a lock. Frominstalling alarm systems, surveillance systems, or closed circuit television to replacing worn-outlocks, locksmiths keep us away from harm, may it be on banks, schools, or homes. In addition, locksmiths can create duplicates of keys and pick locks on locked cars. Along with the rightlocksmith tools, apprenticeships will typically last five years to complete. Apprenticeships willinvolve on-the-job training before you can become a locksmith. Romford, a large suburbantown for instance, usually has locksmith businesses run by families. It won’t take long before you become a locksmith apprentice. Just follow these easy steps:

1Look for locksmiths in or near your area. Inquire if they are in need of apprentices. If they doneed an apprentice or two, set up an appointment so you can discuss with them that option. Ifthey do not, you can ask them for information on where they did their apprenticeship and thenget in touch with those people. Flipping through the yellow pages of your local telephonedirectory is the best way to look for a master locksmith. Sutton, another large town in England, does have a lot of openings for locksmith apprentices.

2Contact your local chapter of the Master Locksmiths Association (UK). Confer with the contactperson at your local branch and discuss apprenticeship opportunities. There’s a good chance

that they will refer you to a local union or to a locksmith firm where you can start yourapprenticeship.

3Look over your borough’s apprenticeship directory through the Master Locksmiths Associationwebsite. Your borough’s training office may have information on government or non-government sponsorship programs that you can apply for. In addition, you may also need toattend courses offered by the apprenticeship office. Just keep on searching for opportunitiesnear you and be open-minded.

4From all the searching you have done, pick one of the local locksmiths that you think would giveyou the best opportunity to grow as a locksmith. Epsom is a good place for an apprentice, especially if you’re from Surrey, England. Just be sure that they are government-approved.From there on, set a date to begin your apprenticeship.

5Research and ask around on what locksmith tools you should get hold of. A good set oflocksmith tools should get you started on your quest to become a master locksmith. Be ready,as apprenticeships usually have an education component, which should be completed alongwith your field work.
