We were thrilled to have Ross back in town for a while, but he's now in California for another surgery and thankfully, that went well. Hopefully, he'll be back in late September or October! Our thoughts and prayers are with him and John Johnson who continues to heal from his cancer surgery and is doing very well!
Fundraiser
As you are all aware by now, we will be hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, August 12 from 3:00 – 10:00 PM at the Main Event in Hoffman Estates. Not only will this be a fundraiser for the club, but a great opportunity for us to socialize with each other. An email went out to all of you on July 13 asking everyone to sell tickets - in advance - for $25.00 per person. This includes a full day of play time at Main Event and gives our club back over $5.00 per ticket sold. All the instructions for how to proceed were included in the email.
We will have a table at Main Event where people will get their wristband(s) for the day if they paid in advance. We will also be selling wristbands the day of the event to the general public. PLEASE help our club raise funds by selling tickets to your friends and family. It’s a perfect time to have a family outing before the kids go back to school! Where else can you keep everyone occupied for 7 hours for only $25.00 per person?!? For more information, contact Cathy at catampir@comcast.net.

August 11, 2018 To celebrate Hanover Park's 60th Anniversary, the Village will be holding an all day festival featuring games and activities for kids, live music, food, drink and fun for the whole family. It will take place at the Hanover Park Park District, 1919 Walnut Ave. from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The Local Business Expo will be a part of this festival and our club has decided to participate. The expo is open from Noon until 4:00 PM and we could use people to take a short shift to promote our club. If you're able to lend a hand, please contact Aneta, Cathy or Terri. Musical entertainment for the day will include...................... 3:00 - 4:30 PM Rico 5:15 - 7:15 PM Modern Day Romeos 8:00 - 10:00 PM 7th Heaven
Our next Texas Hold 'Em fundraiser is coming up on Thursday, August 9 at the Wyndham Gardens in Schaumburg.
We don’t need as many volunteers
as we’ve needed in the past, so please make the time to lend a hand
on one of the shifts, if Terri emails that we could use more help!
It would be appreciated!
By now, you should have received your dues notice for 2018-2019. The dues are $90.00 if paid by August 15 and $100.00 if paid by September 15. Corporate dues is $120.00. Remember that our new Kiwanis year begins on October 1 and we hope that all of you will consider renewing your membership for next year.

Peanut Days!!
Friday and Saturday, September 28-29
Official planning for Peanut Days has already begun! As we have said many times before, we need EVERYONE’s help to make this fundraiser a success. This is the one project where we expect ALL of our members to step up! Here’s how you can help: Think of another non-profit
organization who may benefit from partnering with us on this project. Share the flyer on the following page with them so that they can see how they can raise money for their group and help us at the same time.
Think of new businesses that have come into the area or individuals who may be willing to make a donation. Provide us with their name so we can reach out to them.
Come out to help over Peanut Day weekend and bring a friend!! The more money we raise, the more we can do for the kids in our community.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 11 at 6:00 PM at Terri Johnson’s home at 1890 Avon Drive, Hoffman Estates. Hope to see you there!
10th Annual Kids Fishing Derby
Save the date for our 10th Annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 8 at
Surrey Woods Pond in Streamwood.
Pat Hart will be this year's chairperson and we're sure that she will do the same
bang up job she did last year.
For those of you who haven't helped out before, the tasks are easy……………
registering our little fishermen, keeping track of the smallest, largest
and most fish caught by each child and awarding prizes and trophies.
So, come on out for a few hours to lend a hand and enjoy the event! The kids
have a great time and so do we!

“The Johns” at an Interclub with eKiwanis in 2007
John Tampir and John Johnson
April 15, 2019 will mark our
20th
year as a Kiwanis club
and we’d like to celebrate
it in a big way!
We plan to have a luncheon
or dinner and invite local
dignitaries, friends, past
Kiwanians, prospective
members and more!
But, we’d also like to do
something special for the
kids. Not sure what that
may be at this point, but
we want to make it
memorable!
If you have some ideas,
please share them with us!
Perhaps we can make this
a year long celebration!!

A Message from the Kiwanis Children’s Fund………..
WE DID IT!
During the 103rd Kiwanis International Convention, we raised more than $170,000.00 for the MNT Challenge. Thank you! And here's more exciting news: By surpassing our goal of raising $100,000.00, we have unlocked an additional $100,000.00 from our group of generous donors. We'll keep raising money for the MNT Challenge until we reach $200,000.00. That means $400,000.00 in new money will go toward saving and protecting the lives of thousands of babies who might otherwise perish from maternal and neonatal tetanus. You still can accept the challenge, because the sooner the money comes in, the faster we can make a difference. Plus you can read about these special donors who are helping make all of this possible!

Teriyaki Chicken and Pineapple Rice Casserole
Ingredients 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
1 1/2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cups uncooked Minute® instant white rice
1 can (8 oz) pineapple tidbits, undrained
1 red bell pepper, diced
1/4 cup sliced green onions (about 3)
1 1/4 cups Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz container)
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (5 oz each)
Directions 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking
spray. 2. Make teriyaki glaze by mixing brown sugar, soy sauce, gingerroot, garlic and
pepper flakes in 8-inch nonstick skillet. Stir over medium heat until sugar is melted. In small bowl, beat cornstarch and water; add to soy mixture. Cook 1 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mixture starts to simmer and has thickened. Cool slightly; reserve 2 tablespoons glaze in small bowl; cover and refrigerate.
3. Mix rice, pineapple, bell pepper, 3 tablespoons of the onions and the broth in
baking dish. Season both sides of chicken with salt; brush with 2 tablespoons of the unrefrigerated glaze. Stir remaining unrefrigerated glaze into rice mixture; place chicken on top of rice. Cover tightly with foil.
4. Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until juice of chicken is clear when center of thickest
part is cut (at least 165°F). Serve topped with reserved 2 tablespoons refrigerated glaze and remaining 1 tablespoon green onions.

Photos of us thanks to LTG Brenda!
Not only is our new Lt. Governor, Brenda Murphy, a good leader, but she's quite a photographer, as well. Here are two photos from our Installation Banquet at Pilot Pete's in September that I just found on the Division 8 Facebook page.
