From the Pastor’s Corner
How do you hear God’s voice? Moses heard it in a burning bush.
Abraham heard God’s voice from an angel asking him to sacrifice his son.
Mary said yes to God when an angel told her she would bear God’s Son.
Today if we saw a burning bush we would call the fire department and if we
told people that an angel of the Lord appeared to us they would quickly
distance themselves from us thinking that perhaps we were overly stressed.
The Samaritan woman at the well is more like what we experience today in
that, while doing her ordinary chores, she heard God’s voice in a
conversation with a stranger.
Today, on this feast of Christ the King, we celebrate the Rite of
Welcome with Robert Knuschke and Karinn and Steven Semke who have
heard God’s voice in very subtle, ordinary ways as they have tried to
understand how best to respond to God’s call. In this celebration, we will listen to them as they declare
publicly for the first time their intention to become Catholic. The rite asks Rob, Karinn and Steve if they
are ready to follow Christ but this Rite of Welcome also asks us, as Christ’s disciples, if we are ready to
help them follow Christ. How fitting it is then that we celebrate this rite on the feast of Christ the King
because as Pope Francis tells us “Christ is the centre. Christ is the centre of creation, Christ is the centre
of his people and Christ is the centre of history. In him we are all one, one people, united with him and
sharing a single journey, a single destiny. Only in him, in him as the centre, do we receive our identity as
a people.”
In responding to God, Rob, Karinn and Steve are making Christ the center of their lives. Hebrews
12:1 tells us that “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves
of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while
keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith.” We are the cloud of witnesses
supporting Rob, Karinn and Steve as they run the same race we run, encouraging them on their
continuing journey of faith, the journey taking them to the sacraments of faith, those sacred symbols
which make present the amazing grace of Christ.
When you see Rob, Karinn and Steve, say hello, welcome them to St. Christopher and St. Sylvia
and let them know that you are praying for them. Also , please thank the RCIA Team!
The RCIA Team: Wendy Wajda, , Bill Paccione, Ray Ricci, John Hoey, Teresa Hoey, Mike Cassidy, Lisa
Dolan, and all the hospitality providers.

Thanksgiving Day Blessing
O God of all things in heaven and on earth, you give all your people in the world the gift of life, the gift of family, the gift of work, and the gift of rest. On this, our national day of Thanksgiving, we turn all our thoughts to you, from whom all blessings flow. Bless all our work, our friends, and our families both near and far. We humbly ask for the ability to continue our work for your kingdom and the ability to gather freely to worship you without fear. We ask you to give our years ahead your blessing and protection. We ask all this through Christ the Lord, your Son and our brother. Amen.

Thanksgiving Prayer
This Thanksgiving let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of
the Lord. At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve on another and to walk together in God's gracious world. With thankful hearts we praise our God who like a loving
parent denies us no good thing. Amen

Relating to the Gospel: The thief on the cross was able to
recognize Jesus for who he was, while others who heard
and saw him could not. What was it really like to see and
hear him in person? What were the culture and times like?
Would we have recognized him, disguised as a 1st century
carpenter?
Program: The Footprints of God: Jesus On Our Calendar This Week: Thursday is Thanksgiving
Day! Did you know the word Eucharist means
“thanksgiving”? The church makes some bold claims about
this sacrament, how can we believe that Jesus is actually
present in the bread and wine? After the turkey and
football games, check out:
