From the Pastor’s Corner
The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist
T
iny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant
wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It
is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps
are taken, as personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in
reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What
will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is
born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure
from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be?
Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John
would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and
eventually attract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of
King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is
a child, an infant newly born.
On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The
character formation, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices,
every parental effort is subjected to the decisions of the child themself. Even children on a sure
track by high school graduation transform under life's circumstances. Entrusting our children to
God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation
lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined.
But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who prepared the way for the
Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents -- that our children would be raised in such a
way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ.

The Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul
Study: of God, Peter: Keeper of the Keys
He is called the Rock, the Fisher of Men, and Head of the Church. But how
did Peter, a rustic fisherman, come to deserve such honor and authority?
Join Stephen Ray as he follows Peter from Galilee to Jerusalem to Rome.
Along the trail you'll discover answers about the infallibility of the Pope,
papal succession, the truth of Catholic teaching, and much more!
Watch: of Tarsus
Widely considered Christianity’s greatest evangelizer, Paul of Tarsus
dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel, travelling far and wide to deliv-
er the word of God. His journeys ultimately brought him to the heart of the
Roman Empire, where Christianity took root. Shot on location in Rome, this documentary takes
you to the places where he taught, lived, worked, was martyred and buried.

Rededication Ceremony for the Memorial of the
Unborn Child
TODAY June 24, at 1:30PM
St. Christopher’s School, 30 Benner Rd.
Come join us in the Rededication of this memorial
stone. The Knights of Columbus Council originally
installed the stone at St. Sylvia’s Church and it has
been moved to 30 Benner Rd.
Thank you Knights of Columbus for all your hard
work involved with the Rededication of this
significant Memorial.
PRAYER LISTS
If you would like to add someone to the sick list that
is read from the Altar at Mass, please contact the
Rectory Office (be sure to have the sick person’s
permission first) Their name will remain on the altar
list for one month. Please call again if they continue
to need prayer, as names on the altar list will not
automatically be renewed or automatically put on the
Bulletin Prayer List.
The Bulletin Prayer List works differently. Once
someone is added to the sick list, their name is not
removed unless we are notified to do so. Kindly call
the Rectory Office to provide updated information.
(There are approximately 30 people who have been on
the bulletin Sick List for over 3 yrs.)
Congratulations to Ethan Davidson who
receives his Eagle Scout Badge at the Ea-
gle Court of Honor this Sunday, June 24
th
.
His service project benefited our parish, as
he planned, organized, led, and managed
the taking down of the dilapidated shed
behind the school and replacing it with a new one.
Only 4% of Boy Scouts are granted this distinguished
rank after a lengthy review process.
Welcome to that 4 Percent Ethan!
Congratulations to our Graduates of 2018.
May God bless you the day of
your Graduation and in all the
days and new adventures that
follow. May God bless you with
wisdom, prudence, good health,
and happiness. May you always
trust in God’s love and mercy and may you
be a reflection of that love to all you meet.

Their willingness to share and make our candidates
and catechumens feel welcome in our parish is true
Christian witness.
Most especially, we thank Lisa Dolan who baked &
coordinated by making phone calls, writing emails, &
scheduling the goodies. She also organized and
prepared the Welcome Reception after Easter Vigil.
We are grateful.
Why Advertise in Our Bulletin?
Parishioners trust and want to support other
parishioners and the local economy. Often people call
the office wanting to know if we have anyone in the
parish who does this, that, or the other. When you
advertise in the bulletin, you will be identified as a
parishioner or local business person and people will
know to call you!
Starting Monday, July 30th, a sales
representative from Liturgical Publications Inc (LPi)
will be here for a week, meeting with people to secure
ads. But why wait until then? Call Lisa Petrucco at
800-477-4574 ext.6293 or lpetrucco@LPi.com to
find out more about placing an ad in the bulletin.
People place ads for all kinds of reasons, such as;
businesses, charities, community service
organizations, as well as in memory of loved ones.
The Parish Rosary Garden, on the south side of the
Church, is underway and promises to be a beautiful
tribute to Our Lady. This project is funded completely
by fund raising efforts and donations. Thank you to
all who have so graciously donated in one
way or another!
A special thank you to Mikaela Korb who
is doing an amazing job spearheading and
organizing this memorial.
Please keep our
Military and their
families in your
prayers.

All agreed that Elizabeth’s baby would be called Zechariah.
Elizabeth said he was to be named John. The relatives asked the
baby’s father to name the baby. He took a tablet and wrote, “His
name is John.” Even he was amazed at what he had written and
then began to praise God.
