The Oberlin Swim Club will have its first meet on Saturday.
Organizer Stephanie Blau said the swimmers were to start three-a-day practice on Tuesday. Swimmers will practice for an hour at 6:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. each weekday, she said.
Here’s the schedule for the North-west Kansas Swim League:
• Saturday, Holyoke, Colo.
• Saturday, June 9, Wray, Colo.• Saturday, June 16, Colby• Saturday, June 23, Burlington,
Colo.• Saturday, June 30, Oakley.• Friday and Saturday, July 6 and
7, Northwest Kansas League meet at Goodland.
All meets start at 8 a.m. Central Time.
Swim club startspractice this week
The Decatur Community High boys 4x800-meter relay team won the state championship in Wichita over the weekend at the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet.
Oberlin sent 10 girls and five boys to the state meet after a successful regional meet in Smith Center the week before.
Besides the gold medal for the relay team, the Oberlin teams came home with eight medals, a third, four fourths, a fifth, a sixth and a seventh place.
The 4x800-meter relay team with seniors Dalton Jones, Brent Juenemann and Tyler Shields and junior Zach May finished their race in 8 minutes, 13.45 seconds, a new school record.
Other medalists were:• Sophomore Kayla Jones, high
jump, 5 feet, third.• D. Jones, 800 meters, 2:01.83, a
new school record, fourth.• Senior Kiah Blau, shot put, 37-
6, fourth.• Junior Miki Dorshorst, 200
meters 27.51, fourth.• The boys 4x400-meter relay
team of Jones, May, senior Nolan Henningson and Shields, 3:34.29, fourth.
• The girls 4x800-meter relay team of freshmen Winter Polivka,
Caitlin Shields and Morgan Jan-sonius and junior Darbi Rouse, 10:11.74, fifth.
• Junior Cassidy Shields, 300-me-ter hurdles, 49.35, sixth.
• The girls 4x400-meter relay team of Polivka, Cassidy Shields, Jones and Dorshorst, 4:16.49, sev-enth.
“It was great to see our boys 4x800 relay repeat as state champi-ons and set another school record,” said Coach Jeff Jones.
“Dalton had an outstanding meet and finished off an outstanding ca-reer at state, where he earned nine state medals in his four years.
“Kiah did a great job in the shot put this season and placed at state for the second year in a row.”

ter runs.The state meet ends the track
season. It was the first time all year that the girls team had not taken first place in a meet.
Both the boys and girls teams took 12th at state.
