The Little Red Hen

Click on the story books in the bottom corners to turn the page.

Once upon a time there was a little red hen.

She was a very busy little red hen and she lived on a farm with three very lazy animals.

There was a cat, a dog

and a goose

One day while doing yard work, the little red hen found some seeds. They happened to be wheat seeds.

Oh look! I have found some

wheat seeds!

She asked her farmyard friends for help.

Who will help me plant these

seeds?

Not I.

Not I.

Not I.

“Not I” said the cat.

“Not I” said the dog.

“Not I” said the goose.

Very well then. I will have to plant the seeds myself.

Her farmyard friends would not help her.

And so the little red hen did plant the seeds all by herself. She tended the seeds while they grew, until one day the wheat was ready for harvesting.

She asked her farmyard friends for help again.

Now who will help me cut this wheat?

“Not I.” said the cat.

“Not I.” said the dog.

“Not I.” said the goose.

Not I.

Not I.

Not I.

Her farmyard friends would not help her.

Very well then. I will have to cut

this wheat myself.

And so the little red hen did cut the wheat all by herself. But now the wheat had to be taken to the mill to be ground into flour.

She asked her farmyard friends for help again.

Who will help me take this wheat to the mill?

“Not I.” said the cat.

“Not I.” said the dog.

“Not I.” said the goose.

Not I.Not I.

Not I.

Her farmyard friends would not help her.

Very well then. I will have to

grind this wheat into

flour myself.

And so the little red hen did take the wheat to the mill and she ground it into flour all by herself. The only thing left to do now was to bake the flour into bread.

She asked her farmyard friends for help one last time.

Who will help me bake this flour into bread?

“Not I.” said the cat.

“Not I.” said the dog.

“Not I.” said the goose.”

Not I.

Not I.

Not I.

Her farmyard friends would not help her.

Very well then. I will have to bake the bread myself.

And so she did bake the flour into bread all by herself. The aroma of warm bread drifted through the farm, and soon all of her farmyard friends had come to see what she was cooking.

I know who will eat this bread!

“I will!” said the cat.

“I will!” said the dog.

“I will!” said the goose.

I will!

I will!

I will!

I don’t think so!

You did not help me plant or cut the wheat. You did not

help me grind the wheat into flour and you did not help me

bake the flour into bread.

I did it all by myself, so I will eat the bread all by myself.
