CHARITY | UNITY | FRATERNITY | PATRIOTISM 111 Landa Street 78130 830.632.5070 kofc4183@gmail.com | www.kc4183.org | www.tkofc.org

December 2017 Grand Knight’s Message GK Henry Hull Received Thank You cards from Texas State Council Charity Board for the $2,500.00 Harvey Relief Fund donation and the Christian Mothers for the $100.00 we gave them.

The Kiosk pilings for Wurstfest were installed and ready for use.

The new layout for the Wurstfest Parking lot was designed by Br. Brian Greenwell with Mormon-Mok Architecture and survey pins were dropped in with some modifications by a surveyor from the company Br. Greg Tabor works for. Let’s thank them for volunteering their time to do these things for the Knights.

Brs. Hank, Tony, Harvey and Harold were out laying down the lines for the last 2 weeks for the parking lot.

We had a very good turnout for the Options for Life banquet.

Our Council hosted a 2nd and 3rd degree ceremony on October 28th at the Hall. There were 65 candidates taking their degrees, of those there were 2 priests, 12 Seminarians AND 7 from our council. They were Mike Parma, March Kieschnick, Ed Perez, Jerry Patterson, Martin Yharte, John Lopez and Justin Morales. Thanks to all the Brother Knights that helped make this a successful event. Hope to do this next year on October 27th.

We had a large group for the Corporate Communion and breakfast. Br. Udo Marbach and company did an excellent job with breakfast. It was delicious. Br. Joseph Mack was not present to win the $300.00 attendance drawing.

November 26th is our Memorial Mass at the Hall at 3 pm. Father Kris is the celebrant. We will have light refreshments after the Mass.

December 1st is the Texas State Council social here at the Hall. We will need help hosting and serving the food at about 6 p.m.

Our annual Christmas party will be on December 3rd at 4 p.m. at the hall. Will need help. This is a wonderful evening of Christian Fellowship. We will eat about 5 p.m. There will be a children’s performance of the Christmas pageant. Those of you with children contact Gloria Tschoepe about the meeting time for practice at 830-620-7816 or Natalie Randazzo at 512-757-4643.

We are starting to collect donations of money for the Christmas food baskets we provide to 100 families on December 16th. If you would like to sponsor 1 box, more or less, you can write a check to the KC council 4183 and write in the description line food basket. A supply of food this year is estimated at $65.00. We will need help taping boxes together the week of the distribution (Wed. or Thurs.) A request for help will be sent out a week ahead. Then help will be needed with boxing the food on Friday the 15th, about 1 hour and on Saturday the 16th from 8 a.m. to noon handing out boxes and delivering some.

4th Degree Faithful Navigator Jerome Pavliska Many thanks to the Sir Knights that helped SK Tom San Miguel park cars during Wurstfest on Monday, November 6th. I thought we had a very good turnout to help at this event. I know many Sir Knights worked multiple shifts to park cars. MANY THANKS TO ALL!!!

Thanks to the Sir Knights that attended the “Fall-Out” for the Veteran’s Day Program at Sts. Peter & Paul School gymnasium and for attending the Veteran’s Day Parade in downtown New Braunfels.

We need a volunteer to serve as our Color Corp Commander for the Assembly, please let me know if you are interested in this position.

The first Friday of each month, the Assembly has a Mass for Deceased Sir Knights at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 6:00 p.m. This month the date is December 1st.

Our next Rosary is on Saturday, December 16th, at 7:30 am. Please come out to join us to say the Rosary at Msgr. Bily’s monument and have some refreshments afterwards. The New Braunfels Council will be working on the Christmas Basket Project that day. So, if you want to stay and help fill and deliver boxes of food to needy families, please do.

Our Christmas Dinner Party is on Saturday, December 9th, at Casa Garcia’s Restaurant in the HEB shopping center at SH 46 & LP 337. Plan to gather at Casa Garcia’s after the 5:00 p.m. Mass at Sts. Peter & Paul Church or the 5:30 p.m. Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Hopefully we can start eating around 7:00 p.m. Contact SK Frank Piletere at (281) 702-5988 or e-mail him at frankpelitere@gmail.com for RSVP’s. Cost for the evening is $15 per person.

Since we have the Christmas Dinner for Sir Knights and their spouses, we will not have a December meeting. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. We’ll say the Rosary starting at 7:00 pm and the meeting will begin at 7:30 pm.

2018 Dues are due by January 1, 2018. Please pay them to our Faithful Comptroller as soon as possible. Dues are $24 per member. Dues for Honorary Members are only $10 and Honorary Life Members do not have to pay dues. You can mail your dues to SK Frank Piletere at 1414 Ensenada Dr., Canyon Lake, TX 78133.

We had 54 Major Degree Candidates that attended the Degree on Saturday, October 28th. Eight of those were from our Council. They were Mike Parma, Marc Kieschnick, Ed Pelz, Jerry Patterson Martin Yharte, John Lopez and Justin Morales. Thanks to all the Brother Knights that helped make this a successful event. Hope to do this next year on October 27, 2018.

If you need to contact me, please e-mail me at jdpavliska@sbcglobal.net or call me at (830) 832-2886.

Financial Secretary Don Volz The Council's 2018 budget was presented at the November 2nd business meeting. Budget amendments will be considered, and the final budget will be approved, at the December 14 business meeting. The budget as presented in November was much leaner than in 2017 due to the continued downturn in revenue from bingo. On the plus side, we just set a new record for revenue from Wurstfest Parking, exceeding our revenue forecast by about $8,000, so we may be able to restore some of the cuts made in balancing the original budget. 2018 Membership Dues - The initial billing notices for 2018 Council Membership Dues will be mailed on or around Dec 1, 2016. If you've moved in the last year and haven't given me your new address, please send it to

Financial Secretary (continued) me via email to don.volz@gmail.com to avoid billing delays and wasted postage. If you'd like to avoid receiving billing notices and save your Council postage, you can pay me whenever you see me - at church, at any meeting or social, or at Monday night bingo. You can also mail your dues payment to me at 1015 Meridian Drive, New Braunfels, TX 78132-4414. Make you dues payment check payable to "KofC Council 4183" and include "2018 Dues" in the memo line. Dues are $40 for Regular members and $10 for Honorary members. Honorary Life members pay no membership dues. NOTE: I won't be generating 2018 membership cards until the initial billing notices have gone out. To encourage brothers to remit their dues ASAP, and to remind our more forgetful brothers, we plan to list the names of brothers with delinquent 2018 dues in the March Knight Light.

Keep Christ in Christmas Musical

All are invited to attend the 5th annual Keep Christ in Christmas musical on Sunday, December10th, at 5 p.m. at the Brauntex Theatre on San Antonio Street. The event features choirs from area churches singing religious Christmas music. Admission is free and there's no reserved seating, so you may want to come early for the best seats. For those who may not know, your Council subsidizes the over-the-street banners that advertise the musical. You'll see them Nov. 27th - Dec. 10th over Landa St. near Fredericksburg Rd. and over East San Antonio St. near the Comal River Bridge.

Ushers & Greeters Needed

Brother Knight Tommy Daum who is the Director of Church Hospitality (Ushers and Greeters) at Sts. Peter & Paul Church is recruiting. You sign up for at least a 3 year commitment, of one mass once a month and then continue if you are so inclined to do. Which many have done. Ushers show folks places to sit, take up the collection , escort folks to Communion , at the end of Mass help folks especially when they exit the stairs , so that they don’t trip going down, then return to the inside to straighten/clean the pews (place missals/hymn books in racks as well as on side benches). Ushers may also greet and watch out for security which is a growing issue. Greeters are the intentional ones to greet folks coming into church, then at the end of Mass hand out the bulletins and bid folks to have a blessed day. Your help would greatly be appreciated. Call 830- 625-8937 Tommy to help with this service project.
