TRANSCRIPT

The Kingdom tells the story of Bellator, a heroic figure who is fighting to uncover the corruption of King Arthur’s

round table. He is a soldier in King Arthur’s army, but after seeing the greedy, corrupt knights of the realm, he leaves

his rank and fights alone to expose the truth. Our nomadic hero wonders the land with only his sidekick Fortis for

company, a small dragon who he has had since birth.

During the show we discover that the corruption of the army is not the biggest threat, during Bellator’s fight, he

uncovers Merlin as an evil dying mage. Merlin is a multidimensional character who uses his magic to present a good

personality to King Arthur, but in reality he is old and fighting to stay alive. He is using King Arthur and his army to

find the Holy Grail, which he plans to use to regain power and take over the land

The series sees our hero Bellator complete quests as he travels, but the ultimate goal is to show Merlin as an evil

corrupt figure. Each week the arching storyline unfolds, but in order to keep action and drama he must complete his

own quests each episode. The show brings about the mystical and adventurous tales that were so popular in the 80’s,

whilst providing a new narrative and modern pace.

Hero – Bellator

Height – 6 ft 2

Age – 28

Bellator is noble and brave, but despite being the hero of our show

he remains somewhat mysterious. He is a lone figure who keeps

himself to himself and is cautious of others. Despite his mysterious

nature he fights for the good and right in an attempt to find truth.

His past is unexplained, only adding to the mystery of the

character but the audience is certain of his desire to uncover

Merlin.

He is a skilled and talented fighter, both with range weapons and

hand to hand combat. His attire reflects his lifestyle, he wears dark

muted tones as camouflage in his travels, whilst his clothes are

fashioned from natural fibres and leather. His mysterious nature is

emphasised by the long cloak that he wears and the hood that he

uses to cover his face.

Bellator uses traditional weaponry such as swords and daggers, but

also a hidden blade within the arm guard allows him to cause

damage from close range.

He has a small blade attached to his leather boots and always carries his sword on his belt. The handle of this sword

can also be extracted to reveal a second hidden blade.

Hero Head Study

Bellator has travelled as a nomad for

many years and so his face and character

reflect his lifestyle. He is young but worn

by weather and combat and so looks older

than his years.

The weapons used by our hero are primitive but highly effective.

They give the appearance that he has customised them to his

needs and are well used.

Sidekick - Fortis

Height – 1 ft 2

Age – 2

The sidekick Fortis is a young dragon who is the pet of our hero. He

bravely follows Bellator on his journeys and although he has good

intentions often finds himself causing trouble and having accidents.

He is the comic relief for the series but despite this will turn up in

our hero’s times of need.

Fortis is small and somewhat dim, but he is noble to his owner. His

green skin reflects his good nature and the audience instantly

recognises him as one of the good guys. He doesn’t have a bad bone

in his body and is always the source of laughter and entertainment.

Villain - Merlin

Height – 5 ft 4

Age – 794

Merlin is the most complex character, typically he is the helping

hand of King Arthur but within this narrative he is the villain.

Merlin is a dying old mage, who in desperation and greed has

turned into a man obsesed with power. He is using King Arthur and

his army to find the holy grail and retrieve it so that he can become

immortal and take over the land. To King Arthur, Merlin presents

an old mage facade that is projected using his magic. But the

reality of the character is that his is an old decaying wizard that

has little power remaining. The little power that Merlin still has is

used up in his rage and outbursts of anger as he becomes more

desperate to find the grail.
