Why transcoding from H.263 to H.264 ?

• Complete migration to the new H.264 will take several years since H.263 and MPEG are widely used in many multimedia applications nowadays. pp y

• This creates an important need for transcodingtechnologies that convert the widely available H.263 compressed ideos to H 264 compressed formatcompressed videos to H.264 compressed format.

• The proposed approach directly converts the DCT coefficients in H 263 to integer transform coefficients in
