Chemical Photograph

This type of photo has its roots in 1826, when

French inventor Joseph Nicephore Niepce made

the images on polished plate, covered with a

petroleum bitumen solution.

It took eight hours during a sunny day to make the first

pictures. Compared to today's mili or even

microseconds it was incredibly long time.

How to make the chemical photos?

The first light picture ever taken in the

world

Slovak photography was discovered after the first

world war in 1918 when Slovakia was part of

Austria – Hungary.

The initial development of photography in

Slovakia started during our national revival.

Anton Podstraský  He started

as a photographer in the Film studio of the Slovak Film from the eighties of 20th century. He published his photos in the newspaper.

As one of few Slovak photographers he did not only capture „real socialism“ but he also published his images.

František Abrahamovič He was one of the first

professional

photographers of

Slovakia. He was

originally a painter - a

portrait artist. He led the

Bratislava Photographic

Studio around 1855.

Tibor Huszár

In the early nineties

on the 20

century he

went to New York,

where he worked

as a freelance

photographer and

educator.
