NYC STARTUPSRRE VENTURES | INTRODUCTION TO THE NYC TECH COMMUNITY

NYC has

1. Entrepreneurial Culture (risk taking, overcoming adversity, 24x7 work ethic, creativity, innovation, competitive)

2. Engineering + Creative Talent (universities, large tech companies, agencies, design shops)

3. Billions in advertising spend

4. Proximity to capital (big banks, hedge funds, VCs, angels)

23

• Content startups are still getting funded• SAAS and Health Tech appear to be the fastest

growing categories in 2012 and 2013• Hardware is the new category in 2013 and it is worth

watching in 2014• Ed Tech and Ad Tech seem to have cooled off a bit in

2013• Commerce remains a core strength of NYC and shows

no signs of slowing down• Social + consumer apps still a strength but not as “hot”

as 2011 and 2012
