WHEN AND WHERE OCCURED THE GREAT CHICAGO FIRE?

The fire started on October 8, 1871 and it began on DeKoven Street in a barn owned by Catherine and

Patrick O'Leary.

The effect on Chicago

• What did the great fire destroy?

• How did Chicago look afterwards?

WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE?

The barn was fueled by a gale-force wind, this blaze grew into the Great Chicago Fire.

• Nobody really knows what may have been the cause.

• A very well known rumor is that a cow tipped over a oil lamp.

• There are other rumors of what may have been the cause of the great chicago fire. What may have been the

cause of the chicago fire!

What caused the Great Chicago Fire?

WHAT WAS DESTROYED?Advancing northward for 36 hours, the inferno

destroyed three and a half square miles in the heart of the city (downtown), leveling more than 18,000

structures.

HOW MANY PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES?

One-third of the city's residents lost their homes and at least 300 perished.

WHAT IS THE LONG-TERM IMPACT OF THE FIRE ON THE CITY, THE COUNTRY,

THE WORLD?

In the structures of all the buildings before didn't exist alarms for a fire or things like this but now is a lot of security and protection in all the buildings of the city.

Now the city have good and new structures and before there were old structures.

Now the city of Chicago is beautiful so for this reason is a lot of turism in the summer.

The only structure that survive the “Great Chicago Fire”

was the WATER TOWER.
