THE FEAST OF PENTECOST - JUNE 4
The Feast of Holy Pentecost is celebrated each year on the fiftieth day after the Great and Holy Feast
of Pascha (Easter) and ten days after the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. The Feast is always
celebrated on a Sunday.
The Feast commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost. It
also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the
baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus
Christ. The Feast is also seen as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity.
ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN CELEBRATION OF THE FEAST OF PENTECOST This great Feast of the Church is celebrated with the Divine
Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom on the Sunday that is the
fiftieth day after the celebration of Pascha. The Liturgy is
conducted on the day of the Feast, and is preceded the evening
before by a Great Vespers service and on the morning of the
Feast by the Matins service. On the day of the Feast a Vespers
service is conducted that includes the kneeling prayers. These
prayers mark the beginning of the practice of kneeling during
the Liturgy at the time when the holy gifts of bread and wine
are consecrated as the body and blood of Christ. The practice of
kneeling has been suspended during the Paschal season. On the
Monday following the Feast, the Divine Liturgy is conducted in
commemoration of the All-holy and Life-creating and All-
powerful Spirit, Who is God, and One of the Trinity, and of one
honor and one essence and one glory with the Father and the
Son.
Prayer of the Holy Spirit Heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, everywhere
present and filling all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of
life: come and abide in us, cleanse us from every impurity and
save our souls, O Good One.
HYMNS OF THE FEAST Apolytikion:
Blessed are You, O Christ our God, who made fisherman all-wise, by sending down upon them the
Holy Spirit, and through them, drawing all the world into Your net. O Loving One, glory be to You.
Kontakion
When the Most High came down and confounded tongues of men at Babel, He divided the nations.
When He dispensed the tongues of fire, He called all to unity, and with one voice we glorify the Most
Holy Spirit.

Parish Council President Message
Dear St. George Parishioners:
As I reflect back it seems like only yesterday I was talking about the return of our children to Sunday
School and the start of the Ecclesiastical Year. My how this school year has flown by. We are so blessed
in this parish to have a rich youth program. While it makes our hearts happy that our beautiful children
are growing into fine young adults, it is a little bittersweet that they are all grown up and going to be
leaving and going off to college. I hope and pray that they will remember all that they were taught and
will remain steadfast to their Orthodox teachings. Many Blessings to all our graduates! We want to thank
the Sunday School Teachers and Parents for hosting a beautiful Recognition Sunday on May 21st.
We have already begun preparing for the Fall festival. This year it will be held October Oct 5 - 8,
2017. Please consider placing an Ad in the Ad Book for your business. This is a great way to advertise
your business not only to the Hellenic community but also to the many visitors that attend the festival
from all over the Tri-State area. We need everyone’s help to make this book a successful part of our
fundraising efforts. Please check your emails for the 2017 Ad Book registration forms that will be coming
soon.
Also, we have begun the cooking and baking for the festival. We always need extra helping hands,
emails will be sent out weekly to let everyone know dates and times of the cooking schedule. Please
come and assist in the baking even if it is for a few hours. This year we are looking for donations to help
offset the costs that go into creating each item. If your family or business would like to donate toward
these items, please let the committee or church office know, a complete list of items and costs will be
available and included in the weekly bulletin.
Summer is often a time when we have lower attendance at St. George. We all have vacation plans and
weekend getaways that keep us from attending our church on some Sundays. However, please
remember to continue with your stewardship. We continue to have the same operating expenses to run
the church.
Have a wonder and safe Summer.
Blessings in Christ,
Angelica P. Santora
Parish Council President
Dear Sunday School Families,
With another precious year behind us, I'd like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all the Sunday School teachers for volunteering their time to our youth. Additionally, I'd like to thank all of our parents and members of our church for your support and help throughout the year. Sunday School is sowing seeds for Christ. Through prayer, worship, praise and thanksgiving to Christ our God. You all help instill spiritual growth, knowledge and understanding of our beautiful Orthodox Faith. Therefore, I encourage members of our church to please consider teaching or substitute for our Sunday School
program. If you can volunteer your time please contact me at pattycakridas@yahoo.com. Finally, I'd like to wish our seniors, all of God's blessings on your future endeavors. Wishing all of our families a safe and wonderful summer! In Christ, Patty Cakridas-Ryan
Community Shelter Outreach
Our parish participates in serving dinner to the men at Safe Harbor Shelter in West Chester on the first Tuesday of each month. There are several ways you can participate: If you are familiar with the serving routine at the shelter you can sign up for one of the monthly dinners (prepare dinner and serve, either or both). If you are new to the program you can prepare the meal (enough for 25 adults) and /or come to the shelter to serve it. We will be there with you. Of course, if you wish to make a donation, please make checks payable to St. George – earmarked for “Community Shelter Outreach.” The donations will be used to purchase food or supplies for the needs of the shelter residents. If you would like to sign up to volunteer on a Tuesday, please email Effie Hionis at ehionis@hotmail.com or leave a message at the church office and I will get back to you. This is an
amazing opportunity to serve Jesus! Thanks this month: Many thanks to our serving crew Mr. Evan Andreadis; Mr. Eleftherios Anastasiou for helping serve the meal.
Open dates – 6/6/17, 7/4/17, 8/1/17

CHRISTOS ANESTI! Greetings The Philoptochos Ladies have had another busy and productive year. The ladies start preparing for the fall festival during the summer months. As the time gets closer, the baking get more intense and prep work begins for the festival. Our devoted woman reached their commitment of $3,000. which was donated to the St. Nicholas Shrine. We had wonderful Bid n Buy in November with a full house and raves about the food served. We no sooner got over the event in November when we started baking the Christmas and New Years bread. Clean Monday provided our parishioners with the fresh baked Lagana. 100 loaves were made and we sold them all. We moved forward to Easter. The week before Holy Week, several ladies come to clean the church and get it ready for services. The Epitaphios took lots of planning and labor to hang the arches. The church was stunning. Each Sunday a group of dedicated woman come early to set up coffee hour. The memorials are always taken care of with setting up and cleaning. I’m asking you to help with the Sunday clean up. It’s not up to the ladies all the
time. The coffee hour is for everyone. Again, if anyone, or a group would like to sponsor coffee hour please see let
the office know.

AHEPA #79 UPDATE
The mission of the AHEPA & DOP Family is to promote Hellenism, Education,
Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family and Individual Excellence.
Dear St. George Parishioners: Best thing about these summer months is the beautiful warm weather, fresh gardens, and family vacations. The drawback is we don’t get to see a lot of our friends often while they are on their vacations. Oh well…take the good with the not-so-good I guess! I am so proud and honored to be associated with the Chester-Delco AHEPA and its scholarship program! Again this year, we had another record year for scholarships awarded – 19 scholarships!. That says a lot not only of the many talented, gifted youth in our community, but also of the generosity of the community itself! This could never be done without you. I know I mentioned this in the past, but enough thanks can never be given to our generous community. We would like to thank the following for donating individual scholarships for this year’s effort: the Egonopoulos Family, Nick & Argie Nazarides, Bill & Stephanie Kalogredis, the Kanellopoulos Family, Nicholas & Susan Nicolaides, Mary and Helen Beldecos, the Zanikos Family, the Contoris Family, Art & Peggy Happas, George & Maria Kaffes, Nick & Mary Skoutelas, and Nick & Andrea Perakis, along with the St. George Golf Out-ing, and Daughters of Penelope, who donated two this year! You all have our love, respect, and gratitude! Now on to next year! Once again, I’d like to remind everyone that without membership in AHEPA #79 and our Daughters Chapter, the great scholarship program would not be possible. I hope to see more people become members of our wonderful organizations. As I previously said, it is not a great time commitment and you make friends that will last for life! Rick Hogue AHEPA Chapter #79 President
