Color Challenge!! Big Prizes!
We made it through summer!! Now it’s
on to our very busy fall schedule!! So
much to do… so little time!
We have really been enjoying hand
embroidery and have two new classes
focusing on this very relaxing technique.
Bertys is still teaching the machine em-
broidery class - and auditioning patterns
for a new embroidery club starting in
January for those of you that didn’t get
a chance to join our current club.
Speaking of second chances - we are
repeating our long arm block-of-the-
month. We had 17 quilters last quarter
(too many) with many of you asking to
join in. We will teach the same class,
beginning in October, for 6 months.
Call or come in for more information,
or, pick up a flyer at our
BOM Open House on October 5th.
Come check out all of the new clubs and
classes. It is always a lot of fun, but
many classes have limited enrollment so
come early.
Three more celebrations you should have on your “not
to miss” calendar are:
The Fabric Patch 14th Anniversary Party Sept 28th!!!
Market Party October 26th!!
Christmas Open House November 29th and 30th!!
And, with regard to the calendar, we tried monthly
online newsletters for the summer; it may have been
“greener” and more cost effective, but a lot of you still
came in to pick up a hard copy and told us you missed
getting them in the mail. So we are going back to mail-
ing quarterly newsletters to “local” shop patrons and e-
mailing to everyone else. I hope this is a happy win/win.
We can’t afford to mail to all 2700 in our system. If we
continue to be cost effective, we can keep prices low. So
again, win/win.
So sit back, put your feet up,
and read through a long,
event filled newsletter.
Don’t forget your high-
lighter!!
See you soon!
Cindi
We have been hosting challenges for years in our clubs. Fabric challenges, panel challenges, etc.
Now we are ready to open it up to everyone! And offer big prizes for the winners!
To play, you will have to purchase a fat quarter cotton or batik “color tower” from us (it is the 24
colors of the color wheel) and fill out the registration. The tower cost is only $59 ($66 value) for
cotton and $72 ($78 value) for the batik. They will be available October 1st.
Quilters will have until February 19th to finish their completed quilts. They must be a minimum of
24” x 24” and use at least 12 of the colors provided. Pictures will be posted on our gallery.
Prizes: 1st Place: gift basket valued at $500 and a $500 Fabric Patch gift card.
2nd Place: gift basket valued at $250 and a $250 Fabric Patch gift card.
3rd Place: gift basket valued at $100 and a $100 Fabric Patch gift card.
Worth the drive from anywhere!!
The Fabric Patch is turning 14!!!

September is our month for finishing up
four of the block of the month quilts we
have been working on all summer. Now
it’s time to come to the BOM Open
House and choose a winter project!!
Pincushion Club is open to all. Each
individual class is $5 and includes a dem-
onstration and a $5 voucher to use to-
wards the purchase of your pincushion
kit. Always lots of fun!!!
Thelma is teaching a great class for a
beautiful wallhanging. Check out the
sample in the shop! In Basic Landscapes
you will bring your machine and learn her
great techniques for color and fabric
manipulation.
We also have a Beginning Quilting Class in
September, and again in November. We cover all
of the basics for rotary cutting, piecing, pressing
and finishing and give a class pattern to work on.
It is an affordable class with a bag of “goodies”
valued at more than the cost of the class!
The Game Quilt is a great opportunity to learn
four different techniques (double wedding ring,
big arc, appliqué and perfect four-patch) with a
darling quilt when you are done. This is a four
month BOM with additional featured panels and
giveaways each month. This is an exceptional
class for a beginner or a time challenged sewer.
Come see the quilt and all of the other new BOM
classes at our Open House on October 5th!!
As usual… we had too many ideas… restraint is not a quality we possess. So, we are doing all of them,
now you just have to pick what YOU want to do!! We have new great embroidery club called “Needle
and Thread” and a beautiful hand embroidered BOM using a pattern from a popular local artist. I am
very excited about the new wool BOM. It is huge and GORGEOUS, stitched on a flannel log cabin quilt.
So, so nice!! We are continuing the Modern BOM by mail, starting a new Block-
watchers focusing on Round Robin borders and starting a new $5 Quilt!
We are bringing back the LongArm technique of the month for those of you that
could not get into the first series. It was a lot of fun and worth doing again! Time
to sign up to get inspiration for those unfinished tops!!
Class samples and a full color packet (with a free pattern) will be
given out at the open house, along with a door prize drawing and
“specials” for classes. If you are unable to attend, the full color
packet and pictures will be available online for those classes that
still have openings. Hope to see you!!

The Fabric Patch turns 14!!! Big Celebration!! September 28th and 29th
It is hard to believe we opened on
October 1st, 1999 with only 400 bolts
of fabric and three rooms that seemed
too big to ever fill. Our first class was
Log Cabin Quilt in a Day by Eleanor
Burns and we had 6 participants.
14 years later…. my what a difference,
in so many ways. We feel so blessed to

This is our fourth year!! Each year has gotten bigger and better! Last year was our first “glitch”
with one swapped bag, but it was quickly fixed with no harm to any elves or reindeer!
We have SOOO much fun with this, and plan for it all year. We pick the newest and best items
of the year, package them in cute gift packaging and offer them for one day only, while quanti-
ties last. This will continue for the “12 Days of Christmas”, which this year, will be from the 2nd
to the 17th. With pick up starting on the 20th, and mailed packages going out the 23rd.
We have a few new rules this year to control the frenzy and prevent rainchecks and unclaimed
bags. We will also be very strict about following the time limits and not allowing new
participants to join in once we have started - which may seem harsh, but it was too difficult to keep track when we added people and had
to backtrack. We will not oversell any item, so once it is gone, it is gone. No rainchecks.
To join in, just email Santa any time between now and December 1st. His e-mail address is santa@fabricpatch.net. He will send out a
“test” email on December 1st which will require a response. You will then get a pdf reminding you how the program works. You can buy
every special gift offered, only a select few, or none. But you only have 24 hours to do it! You can respond by phone or e-mail. Your gift
bag will be stuffed each night and pick up will occur on the 20th, with all remaining bags mailed out on the 23rd! Fun, fun, fun!!!
Brianna spent a great deal of money for her textile arts degree from the
Seattle Art Institute. She has had a great time teaching us “Project Runway”
techniques!! She makes it so easy - even for us home economics flunkys!!
She has a great “Perfect Fit” class coming up, offered one day, but two time
options, mid day or evening. Only $14. Includes pattern paper.
If you want to know how to make a copy of your favorite ratty shirt, or how to
make your own pattern for a top that will fit perfectly - this is your class. Check
out the sample at the shop of Cindi’s shirt and the one Brianna made. Now
Cindi can now make a favorite, perfectly fitting top in just 30 minutes - and she
didn’t have to live in Seattle for 2 years!!
Class size limited to 8/time slot. Class is Tuesday, November 5th.
Market Party
October 26th 10 - 2pm
Every October Cindi, Brianna and a
few shop employees go to market in
Houston to find everything new,
exciting and special.
They come back enthusiastic and
energetic, and ready to demonstrate
and show everything they found!!
Come in for a free pattern and fabric
sample, demonstrations, specials
and a door prize drawing!!

For the past 14 years, we have offered over
6oo “day” classes. By that, I mean a one day
class where you bring your machine and
fabric, work on your project, then go home
and finish it up on your own.
Over the years, we have found that there is a very small completion rate for
those that have to take their projects home to work on them. It may be that
they have more questions, or a loss of inspiration, or it could be that life just
gets in the way of our hobbies. For whatever reason, we have found that clubs,
or series are more conducive to completion. People enjoy the camaraderie of a
new group of friends, they are inspired by the “Show and Tell” and are more
likely to complete their block or project if they know everyone else is also
working on their own project.
As a result, we now offer mostly clubs, block-of-the-months and series instead
of one day classes. We want you to join us, meet new friends, come in monthly,
get inspired, be encouraged to finish, learn more than one new thing, have fun,
and most importantly… come out of your quiet sewing studio!!
Why a Club and not a Class? Retreats coming soon!!!
We have been working on a special retreat with
PJ’s new place in Lind, but at the time of this
newsletter printing - it is not ready for occu-
pants, with no set date determined.
SO, we left the Progressive Classes and the Re-
treats out of this newsletter, but are still hoping
to add one in late October or early November. If
you are interested in the information if it should
occur, please leave your phone number and/or
email at the shop and we will let you know when
we get it organized.
We held off sending out the newsletter as long as
possible, but we can’t wait anymore. I suppose if
Murphy has his way, we will have a planned date
within 3 days, or, the exact time this newsletter
arrives on your door!
You can contact me at cindi@fabricpatch.net if
you have questions.
